Then you are a fool. MLB added the second wildcard to give hope to all the bottom feeders that where out of the playoff race by the all star break. Ratings where down, attendance was dropping and they had to do something to keep you interested. So... they gave you hope and change. But just like Obama, this was a smokescreen to keep you interested, when there is no hope or change. Just more the same. Enjoy your slim hope for change because really what else do you have to look forward to as White Sox fans. M.Johnson?

Let's see them beat a team ahead of them in the standings before we get too excited.

Wow. This thread is pretty embarrassing. Sox STILL have a -46 run differential, under .500 record and are behind 4 teams.

Yikes

You beat who is on the schedule, or you lose 6 out of 10 to bottom feeders. Either way.

And nearly the same record as the Cubs who have three players as good as Babe Ruth. Robin Ventura just might be the best manager in the history of the game!

9% < 41% http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/probability.jsp?ymd=20150729

I know most of you Sox fans didn't finish high school, but even you guys would pick a 44% chance at winning then a 9% chance, right? :?

At least we don't have a mock World Series Champions banner for a team that is 2.5 games out....

Sox are 41-38 since May 1st. Not exactly the bottom feeders you Cubs fans make them out to be.

Cubs fans starting to sweat the uncomfortable possibility of the Sox having a better record and making the playoffs.

Well, I finished four years of university but I admit I don't understand how those percentages are derived. Could you clarify?

A computer plays 1 million games as the Cubs, and 1 million games as the White Sox, and it makes up the results, and it spits out a number so people go to the website.

A week ago, the Cubs had like a 75% chance of making the playoffs. This week ruined their season.

I'm going on record right now as saying the Cubs have a 0% chance of making the playoffs. In two months we'll find out if I'm smarter than a computer.

Sure, the White Sox will not win the second wild card spot. The wildcard spot is for that 99 win team that happens to be in the same division as a 100 win team. You are not going to win the Wildcard if you are not one of the best teams in the league. People look at the standings and see a number. 2.5 games back and say, "Hey, we are still in this thing." When actually you are not because a dozen or so other teams are "in this thing." as well and in that mix is the 99 win team stuck in the 100 win division.

All this win streak is doing for Sox fans is taking away the possibility of gaining some prospects and moving players you need to move to get better. But at least you can watch baseball for a couple more weeks, with the "hope" of winning the Wild Card spot and maybe that is all you wanted in the first place. Because Winning the World Series is so.... 2005.

It's essentially the exact same process that's performed in the beginning of the season to forecast 162 performance.

Baseball Prospectus states they use each team's year-to-date run differential, current roster composition, playing time projections and remaining schedule.

The issue is they don't disclose the weighting for each portion. Nor do they disclose how they project future production (weigh historical performance versus 100 game performance) of players.

Of course, White Sox fans have histrionic crying fits with projection systems. It's just a tool not gospel. It's just an educated guess and there are issues. So, I'd advise to not get personally offended by a computer program.

I'm not offended by a computer program. I'm offended by jealous Cub fans spouting the silly number as gospel while insisting it isn't gospel.

This is the problem.

Just like bigfan and him constantly bringing up "The computers say the White Sox suck!" all offseason.

I didn't write the program, but I am guessing all future unplayed games are assumed won/lost with a probability based upon relative team stats.

I'm pretty sure the guys at MLB.com know more then we do here on CSFMB.
