I have tried the beer, but I have never attended DLD. I saw that picture on twitter.

It's fantastic, as is most of the FFF lineup.

Regular Dark Lord is an overly sweet mess IMO. At least some of the barreled versions are amazing though.

They should do a Spinal Tap version called half- inflated Dark Lord.

Well I went through it this year as most years... it was rainy early on, but wasn't too bad later. The line to get in was about 45 minutes, and the line to get your Dark Lord was about 2 hours, but the fun of it is enjoying everyone else's beer and getting to share some of your own. Worst part of the weather was some muddy areas, but other than that it was fine. First year I actually won on a scratcher, so I have a coffee sitting here... some guy at the end of the line was offering $160 for any coffees, but I held onto it for a tasting some friends of mine are planning in August.

I missed last year, but this was much more organized than previous years, so I give them credit for that. Best beer I tasted was Hardywood Gingerbread Stout aged in rum barrels out of Virginia. Top ten lifetime beer in my opinion... it was outstanding. Body was a little light, but everything else was awesome. I'm definitely going to be seeking that out.

A buddy offered me a ticket. I just can't see myself ever going to this. Not a stout fan, not a fan of waiting in line for hours for beer.

It's beer.

Hipster's love nothing more than waiting in line for mundane food items.

I'm attending this event in May, it's really done well. Always fun when someone drops their tasting mug, they have a clean up crew hustle out and pick it up and you get a sippy cup for the rest of the day. I guess it just depends on the event.

Eaglo was there, maybe he will provide his take. I never really got on the craft beer train and have no interest any longer.

Well...better late than never with my take. Weather was a freezing cold shit fest. The DL was good...not really outstanding. I stood in line (like a hipster) with a lady friend of mine for almost two hours for a FFF/Dark Matter Goblet. Good thing I like her company, because I would have never done that alone. I paced myself with the drink samples this year, a little of this and a little of that and had a cut off point. I had a few really awesome beers from people sharing, but I can't recall the names now. There was one that was from South Carolina that was super awesome, some cinnamon, sweet barrel aged type thing.

The event can be a blast if you do it right, but it does seem like more than not, the weather doesn't cooperate. I'll likely go next year as I'm a hipster doofus masochist like that.
