.. are simply to infuriate them. They forget that they are a sports talk show and that if someone wants to talk about salary cap does not automatically imply that they are pro-rape or slut-shamers or victim-blamers.

Balance that against the syncophantic emails/texts/tweets he chooses to read and it's almost, almost, even.

I took a long siesta from the show (like all of July and early August) and resumed listening last week right when the Kaner stuff started. It was Dan and Rozner. I was getting annoyed after about 20 minutes. It's almost like if Reddit managed to birth it's own sports radio show.

It's all part of the show's mojo. I'm sure there are dozens of callers each day who would eviscerate Bernstein in debate. We've seen many of these simple responses on this forum. Many, if not most, of his far spectrum positions are easy to take apart.

Bernstein and his handlers just refuse to take those calls. I've sent multiple texts in to this effect. No response. But if I send a silly one it, it gets a response and/or a few times, gets addressed on the air.

Bernstein used to rip Boozer as a 'bumslayer'. This is precisely who Bernstein is. A guy who, albeit well read and smart, thinks he's considerably smarter than he is because he refuses to engage in debate with people who can easily handle him. It's easy to 'debate' morons and guys who have been whacking down beers since 9am. His favorite tactic of 'no, we aren't doing that show'.

I can, to an extent, respect people who take a strong position. I can't respect those like Bernstein, who will take the strongest of positions and a) not engage in proper debate with those who take the opposite position and b) tout opinion as fact.

I think his quote regarding this was something along the lines of "commenters are like message board people. They are cretins".

once you accept the fact that bernstein is an a-hole.... who plays the role of a giant a-hole on the radio.... you can enjoy the show for what it is. he's even admitted on the air that he often has to feign a strong opinion on topics that may not really interest him for the sake of the show.

the show is still very unique to the chicago sports radio scene...

Bernstein was never like this on middays. I don't know why he felt the need to morph into this.

He doesn't seem interested in both sides of the Kane story and uses the word "victim" which implies guilt to Kane despite no changes to date. You'd think a guy, who claims to have reputable sources and often lectures, on air, on how to properly report/ask questions, would be more interested in finding the truth as opposed to defending one side. To a lesser extent, he used one-sided "sources" for his Cubs vs. roof-tops reporting and wasn't interested in reporting the story as much as he was promoting the Cubs end. I'm sure there are other examples as well.

It's his nuanced 'I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin' thing. It's a very clever way to effectively say what he wants to say without actually saying the words 'Kane is guilty'.

He'll say over and over that he's gone out of his way to remain impartial, but everything he's said - from the interview with the reporter last week, to his comments about the bar owner, to his tweets and his article are saying 'Kane = Guilty' without actually saying it.

The reporter, Bernstein and Rozner all used 'the victim' over and over last week. I wasn't aware there was a 'victim'. If Kane is being falsely accused, HE may very well be 'the victim' - just as Drew Doughty was.

As of now, there is the 'accuser' (name unkown) and Patrick Kane. That is it. Since formal charges have been filed, it's not even fair to call Kane 'the accused'.

Well, he was getting paid anyways. I do think it is his attempt to get his own thing going as he knows Terry carries the show...or did....these days, I really dont know what is going on.

Dan's radio persona is much bigger and tougher than he really is...it just screams fake to me whenever I see him now. I dont doubt the meatballs love going after the guy, its like chumming the waters and I guess if Chicago Sports Meatball factor is that high, Danny can throw out theories and rumors and fight with guys forever....I just find most if it unappealing.

Even WYC, when it got to this weird level of "You guys suck"...."We are cancelling it because of you guys".....HUH? The bit is cancelled because the callers didnt do emough of a good job to entertain the hosts? lol.....Hey, I guess more power to them. Shitzie, Scott from Davenport and Amahd can write in Emails all day and support all of Dan's positions, but between that and Terry doing radio like he is taking a 4 hour shit....the show got old and boring.....if you like it, good for you.

Great post. I pity guys like Berns who are so insecure that they spend all of their time trying to make others look bad and who are confrontational with nearly everyone.

i've said it before and i'll say it again.... mid-day dan was on a show that was a veritable "oasis" in the middle of a day of more traditional/straightforward and dare i say "meatball" programming. they weren't the score's fastball, they were the score's changeup. there was no pressure on them to do "important" stuff cuz they were just that goofy little bad/weird/gay show that stood out from the rest of the day's programming.

and i dont think the score secretly planned to one day anoint b&b as the flagship show, for whatever reason/s (dan working cheap? =) they just outlasted everyone/everything else at/on the station in their early years and then by the late 00s it was like "oh yah this show is the longest lasting / most recognizable score show out of them all!" --- FOTS status ensues.

now in the FOTS (face of the station, an acronym that i think terry created when he used to give dan a lot of shit about his ascension to that lofty status.... remember the good ol days when terry gave dan shit like that? i miss them) era b&b *IS* the flagship show of the score and as CH and others here have talked about the "bernsteinization" of the score--- or how in other words how dan's schtick has been picked up and used by others at the station who are getting solo shifts and whatnot--- and that's happening because he's now the station's fastball and not their changeup. other people see what the top gun is doing and wanna take their shots like he does so they can one day end up being as successful as dan is.

my personal theory is that in lieu of not growing up and becoming a doctor or a lawyer or some formally-respectable position that HELPS PEOPLE, dan has taken it upon himself to use his radio platform to further (social justicey?) causes that he thinks will gentrify the minds/mindsets of his listeners and make them better people for believing not just what he believes, but what you're SUPPOSED TO believe/think/feel/etc. when b&b was the little bad/weird/gay show that could and mike north was the top gun at the station he prolly didnt feel the responsibility to gentrify audiences the way he does now, and again i think that all goes back to him having this odd little superficial job that's nowhere near as IMPORTANT as being a doctor lawyer accountant or whatever his peers/contemporaries went off and did.... so he takes said little superficial job and does REALLY IMPORTANT RADIO with it and he can sleep easy at night thinking he has made his audience better people overall by imparting his much-needed views on them.

TLDR = mid-day dan was on a show that bucked the establishment to do their own thing, today's dan IS the establishment that provides a template for new/er score ppl on how to do FLAGSHIP-QUALITY SCORE RADIO

that and i believe that dan thinks his social justicey preaching really gentrifies his audience to make them better people... like him =D

oh yeah, and about the calls they take it's pretty obvious that amattacola cherrypicks ppl that dan can yell at and talk down to in order to help push whatever narratives/positions the show wants to put out there. beyond that i've always thought that stations like the score prolly buy fake callers to occasionally call up and engage the hosts in such a way that promotes their narrative/views in a way that makes it seem organic and all "hey that's what the people want!"

years ago i noticed howard stern did that when he'd have some asskissing sycophant call up one of his horrible post-artie shows and be like "HEY HOWARD LOVE YOU LOVE YOUR SHOW AND MAN I JUST SAW [WHATEVER] ON HOWARD TV AND IT WAS AMAZING.... SAY WHEN'S [NEXT PROJECT/ENDEAVOR/THING-TO-SELL] COMING OUT?" and howard would be all "wow i'm glad you asked that cuz i meant to get to that today, but yeah coming soon on howard tv we've got....." ---- and its like the card game bullshit where you just wanna slam the table and yell out BULLSHIT!!!!! cuz nobody watches, let alone enjoys, howard TV =D

so i figure the same thing has to happen with stations like the score. when you're not cherrypicking idiots to yell at and you dont have the usual sycophants lined up (unless the sycophants are the ppl they pay for?) then you can miraculously find these everyman callers to call up and be in lockstep with dan and ask him the perfect question to segue into the next subject/topic/issue and keep things moving. ask phil emery and the bears, its all about #synergy in the mid-2010a.

For your consideration: http://gawker.com/5779701/your-favorite ... al-of-lies

However, a strong argument against the Score buying fake callers to chum the waters is that it requires two things the Score doesn't have, which are a promotional budget and a modicum of effort.

The callers, who were once the bedrock of Score programming and success, are now incidental. There was a clear shift away from callers 5-10 years ago.

The station just isn't what I grew to love and I neither feel compelled to listen nor loyal to the brand.

they will not try to make sense out of any comment that they disagree with.they are pros callers are scared people who have never spoken before a group.they obviously wouldn't know how to play"devils advocate"
