Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

"I've been a justice of the peace for 34 years and I don't think I've mistreated anybody," Bardwell said. "I've made some mistakes, but you have to. I didn't tell this couple they couldn't get married. I just told them I wouldn't do it."

Sounds like a racist to me.

Not analogous.

Good try.
Would it have been analogous if he had specifically cited a religious objection? Would you be ok with it if he had?

And yes, there are people who believe that. From religious-tolerance.org
Anti-miscegenationists -- persons opposed to interracial marriage -- come in a variety of types:
Some are simple racists -- most often white supremacists -- who regard all non-whites as intrinsically inferior to all whites. Non-whites are often referred to as the "mud" races.
Others believe that God divided humans into different races and expected them to remain separate from each other forever. Many use verses and phrases from the Hebrew and Christian scriptures (Old and New Testaments) to justify their ban on interracial marriage.[/quote]

And if you want to judge Judeo-Christains by the actions of an idiotic few, I'm certainly not in a position to stop you.

You've got it backwards. I'm "judging" the idiotic few...you seem to be supporting them. I'm certainly not in a position to stop you.

This thread exemplifies why there is a fine line between religion and cult.

There are undoubtedly reasonable religious people who believe what they believe and keep it to themselves. And there are others who, through no amount of logical arguments or people who tell them how awful their stance is, will believe what they believe, facts be damned.

It truly is a shame that these people cast such an awful light on religion for those who choose to practice their spirituality within reason and with respect for others.

You should switch religions. We at the Church of Cannabis offer an express conversion.

At last, someone who doesn't try using her personal issues as a crux to attack her religious views.

You should switch religions. We at the Church of Cannabis offer an express conversion.

That conversion is usually sidetracked with snacks and then everyone forgets where the express was headed in the first place.

False. The snacks come after the conversion.

Let her know then where the Bible says that she has the right, or ability to condone gay marriage.

It's a big part of the conversion ceremony.

I better have punch and pie as soon as I walk in the door, otherwise, count me out.

Both the punch and the pie are infused with THC.

You will be greeted at the door with a vapor pen, by either Brother Shakes or Brother Furious Styles.

I sat in a religion workshop a few weeks ago where the speaker went on a rant about how wrong it was for people to leave the Catholic Church over the pedophilia of priest and the cover up done by their superiors. That talk reminds me of this thread.

Seacrest, it seems like you said Marriage is currently still defined as a man and a woman

Seacrest wrote:
Marriage is still defined as being between a man and a woman in Kentucky.

And then it was "after she got elected"

Seacrest wrote:

So.......when she was elected, marriage was defined differently then it is today. Thus changing her duties.

Did you just mean to write was in the first post?
