FWIW, Eldon Hamm was on with M&H this morning, and said that in this case, the DA has been crossing so many "I" s and dotting so many "T" s that he thinks this bodes badly for Kane - the grand jury is just a formality at this point, and looks good from a prosecution PR standpoint. The bar for a GJ indictment is apparently se very low in NY State.

While appearing on the Waddle and Silvy radio show today, ABC’s sports director and lead anchor, Mark Giangreco, said he has sources in Buffalo that are indicating the Patrick Kane case should be a ‘slam dunk’ for the District Attorney.

After listening to a sound bite from Pardon the Interruption where Tony Kornheiser insinuated the Blackhawks put out the Kane trade rumors today, Giangreco opened up to Waddle and Silvy about his feelings on the case. This is what he had to say.

“I’m just gonna say this, and be very careful the way I say this. No, seriously.

I spoke to a law enforcement person who said, rape allegations/sexual assault allegations are never a slam dunk, but from what he’s heard, this is AS CLOSE AS IT GETS.”

Once they cut Kane loose they'll have plenty of room to sign Kruger.

In New York State, any felony defendant with a decent lawyer is going to make the prosecutor do the Grand Jury dog and pony show before issuing an indictment, as "the NY state constitution provides a defendant with a right to have all felonies prosecuted by way of a grand jury indictment". It's possible the prosecutor asked Kaner and his defense team to waive this right to a Grand Jury and Kaner's team correctly said, "nah, we're good, you go present your evidence to 23 Buffalo citizens and see if 12 of em will indict." And, while ostensibly secret, Grand Juries are notoriously leakier than the Lusitania. Defense will get a lot of pre-charge, pre-discovery information thanks to the Grand Jury process [at minimum, they'll know what witnesses showed up to testify].

"This right can be waived by a defendant, who can then be prosecuted using an indictment substitute called a "superior court information."[35] Grand juries are composed of between 16 and 23 jurors (16 being a quorum for all proceedings) and indictments require a minimum vote of 12 such jurors."

I can understand a relatively young guy like Kane not knowing any better about hiring a lawyer. But you'd think Scotty Bowman [who lives around Buffalo?]/the Blackhawks might step in and say "Patrick, hiring your drinking buddy ambulance chaser lawyer from the club where the events of that night started might not be be the most prudent course of action".

Maybe the Blackhawks are keeping their distance; or maybe they'll get more involved once an indictment's handed down. Right now, it feels like Kane's being left to his own devices and those of this lawyer who told a Buffalo News reporter that he [Kane's lawyer] too might wanna talk to the club owner a week after the events and after the reporter got the club owner on record saying goofy-ass shit and trying to slut-shame the victim [and apparently hitting the non-raped (alledged) friend with the slut-shaming barbs].

I think they have kept their distance....its why I think he is gone. They want it over, so they can trade him for value, but unless some grand plan comes up that this was an elaborate plan to scam Kaner, its just a matter of time, no matter what happens.

I think Patrick should be planning to take this year off.

Well, the gossip for years has been that the OrganIzation HAS done quite a lot to keep Kane in check (including a rumored rehab stint). Having said that, hasn't it been at least twice already that "word on the street" was that Kaner was on the "straight-and-narrow" (once before the Madison episode, and then in general throughout this past season)? Plus, they must have had enough confidence in his future to sign him to the big extension last year, as I doubt they would have if they thought he was a ticking time-bomb.

So, what to do...if he is anywhere near guilty of rape/sexual assault, then bye-bye. If he does not get charged, then they gotta try to straighten his shit out once and for all.

Still wouldn't have mattered. Even he did this the day after winning the cup, look how long it's taking to investigate it? They would have still had to say good bye to Saad as Kane's 10 million would be on the books and no team is trading for him while the investigation is going on. No team will trade for him until after the trial either. From what people say, this could still be months before charges are filed.

So dumb to throw away your career because of rape when you could of just watched porn and jacked it.

Sometimes a person (not necessarily Kane) goes through something like this and comes out better. If he is innocent and not charged this could very well scare him straight. Or he could become a mass murderer too I guess?
