Rumors are circulating on numerous sites that a Rudy Gay for Taj Gibson/Doug McDermott deal may be in the works. If it is on the table Paxson should jump at the first opportunity. I'm no big Taj fan but this isn't about Taj. Rudy Gay would be a helluva pickup for a team that needs a starting caliber small forward.

Rudy Gay would help the Bulls comprise a starting lineup that would be able to compete with any team in the league. The Bulls also have a logjam at the 4 spot, which makes the vastly overrated Taj easily expendable. The Bulls were dominated by Cleveland on the wing during the playoffs, and the dominance occurred even without factoring in LeBron James. The acquisition of Gay would also relegate Dunleavy to a reserve role which is where he belongs.

Rudy Gay is a bigger loser than Melo.

I'd say they are only moderately muscular.

He has played on winning teams. I just watched Taj. get dominated by the very pedestrian like Tristan Thompson during the playoffs. It's time to pull the plug on that one before they don't have a choice.

Rudy Gay is still very athletic. IMU you're a metrics guy check his stats from last season. Very impressive. Losing team yes but the great Taj wouldn't have made that team better either. He was dominated by a backup 4. Pull the plug while people still might think he is a starter.

I'm fine with moving Taj.

Every team Rudy Gay has played for has gotten better when he has left. He's never won a thing.

Lionel Hollins was not in favor of the Rudy Gay trade. I know what you are saying though. Memphis would have been a title contender with Rudy Gay. His trade was for financial reasons. I take him in a heartbeat over Taj. Not even a conversation. Taj was outplayed by Tristan Thompson. Let's not forget that.

Let's also not forget that Taj played hurt. From the Chicago Tribune:
First, Taj Gibson sprained his left ankle three times during the regular season and gritted his way through 12 playoff games. Of the 20 games Gibson missed last season, 17 were because of left ankle issues, featuring the three separate incidents. He missed one game in early November, six games later in November and 10 more in March. He also missed 17 games to two separate sprains in 2012-13 after missing just five games in his first three NBA seasons. No wonder David Porter, an Indianapolis-based foot specialist, found a badly damaged ligament and bone spurs during surgery.

I liked that time Rudy Gay was the best player on the Grizz, got traded, and somehow made Memphis better by not being there. That was a fun little era of Grizzlies basketball, where everyone was a ballhog therefore no one was a ballhog. It was a state of ballhog equilibrium.

Rudy G shoots 25% outside of 16 feet--and yet jacks up 8+ attempts from out there per game.

http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Rudy%20Gay

Gay and Noah on the floor at the same time, the defense is just gonna clog the lane and let those guys run free on the perimeter.

I'd take Rudy Gay if Thibs was around because I know Thibs would be able to tame him. Now I'm not so sure.

The Bulls easily get the better end of this deal if it is made. Rudy Gay has also been known to play LeBron tough. He is obviously not a better player, but he isn't dominated by Lebron. J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert killed Dunleavy. Can't watch that again.

If Taj was so injured then why did the great Thibs continue to trot him out there game after game? He gave the Bulls nothing. Don't doubt that he was injured, but if it effected his performance that much he shouldn't have been playing.

Bill Simmons is a basketball neophyte. Ironically He can't ever talk basketball without mentioning stats. He was the primary reason that ESPN'S studio show was so garbage. He is a terrible analyst.

His basketball stuff is kind of weak though. He used to say a lot of dumb stuff when he was on their studio show. There hasn't been one article that I've read concerning this trade that doesn't have the Bulls getting the best player in the deal.

If they don't move Gibson this yr they won't ever be able to trade him for anything of value. The other reason that he is on the block is that there is a belief that he is being paid too much to be a reserve. Mind you a reserve that is probably going to have a significantly diminished role going forward.

I'd consider trading Taj.

I don't want Rudy Gay.

Rudy Gay is a legit starting 3 man with all star ability. This is a no brainer move if it is actually on the table.

I still feel you don't watch the games and only look at a player's PPG.

Rudy Gay teams lose. Remember what you said about Jamal Crawford?

Yes I do. Jamal Crawford is a career loser that piled up numbers on losing teams. He didn't even play in his first playoff game until his ninth yr in the league. The Bulls nor the Knicks ever came close to making the playoffs at any point of his "era".

If you want people to take you serious you have to be a little more consistent and less hypocritical with your positions. Rudy Gay has been a better player and more of a winning player than Jamal Crawford ever was. He also has been a far better player than Lance Stephenson, another guy that you really wanted.

I really don't believe you watch the games either. You're a metrics guy when it comes to baseball and a guy that rides with whatever the consensus happens to be in basketball.

Since you bring up Crawford it's interesting to note that the Clippers are having a hard time giving him away right now. He has now become expendable because they have Lance Stephenson. Oh the irony!

There isn't a person that "watches" the NBA that believes Taj Gibson is a better player than Rudy Gay. If Gibson had played on Sacramento last yr he would have been a loser also. The Bulls sure got better once he was inserted for an injured Gasol, didn't they.

Memphis and Toronto both got better when he left. So will the Kings.

I don't think Taj is better than Rudy Gay. He isn't.

I still don't want Rudy Gay on the Bulls.

Glenn Robinson yes. Steve Francis no. I actually called Bernstein's solo show to dismiss the idea of the Bulls drafting Francis the day before the draft. I told Bernstein that I thought Baron Davis would be the better pro. Francis was a scoring guard that some mistakenly believed could be a point. Never a fan.

I will grant you Toronto. Memphis hasn't really improved without him. They struggle to score, alas the Bulls. It's one of the reasons they haven't advanced in the playoffs. Memphis didn't trade Rudy Gay for basketball reasons. He was traded for salary cap reasons.

It's interesting that you stated that the terrible play of Stephenson was due to the dysfunction of Charlotte, yet Sacramento is a much worse org. and it's Rudy Gay's fault that the team is not better. That's what I mean by consistency. You don't have to want Rudy Gay. That's your perogative. When you come back and criticize them later for not upgrading the talent base you have to remember discussions such as this. Rudy Gay is a talented player. He is decidedly better than what they currently have. The fact that the Bulls would have to also give up McDermott validates the fact that he is a better player than Taj. If Sacramento offers Rudy Gay the Bulls shouldn't hesitate to make the move.
