I always have a hard time transitioning between sports seasons, but I just can't get into the Bears this year. The list of reasons to dislike them is a mile long.

They have no real young talent to care about, and the only guy who would have been is injured.

They have no likeable veteran players who have been around for awhile. Urlacher was undoubtedly an idiot, but he was a fun player to watch, and he was there for a decade. He was a great reason to watch the Bears. I can't think of a single veteran player with even close to the same impact.

Their coaching staff has, to date, been completely unlikeable. They have shut the media out of their practices and lied about injuries.

The ownership is consistently weird.

They will be lucky to win 5 games.

The one guy who is probably the "face" of the team is the most unlikeable player I can remember.

Is there anything to like about this team or look forward to? I really can't think of any, which is depressing.

Their epic badness may result in a top draft pick. Hopefully we can find a guy in next year's draft that is healthy.

If the offense is healthy, it will put up points.

Fox knows how to coach in that style that keeps games entertainingly close.

I see this as a wasted season for 90% of the defensive players. A couple will show themselves capable of playing 3-4. Enjoy those guys when they emerge.

Watching Jared Allen's hidden talent as a pass coverer.

I'm excited about not having to watch the same boring defensive scheme we've seen for what seems like the last 20 years.

I agree with leash. This team smells like the 2006-2009 years where you know you were winning no more than seven games. I don't think the prospect of a top pick next year helps because I don't think, unlike the MLB and NBA, there is such thing as "rebuilding" in the NFL. The various season ending injuries you're likely to see across the league helps creates a sort of law of parity which means any given team hovering around .500 mid season or so has a chance to slip into the playoffs due to other teams' misfortune. With good coaching and luck/parity, I can even see this team contend for a spot (not a ring) if GB can't rebound from losing Nelson, etc.

I'm right there with ya.

And i think Pernell can be a great face for the franchise going forward as well.

IF Jay shows some under control play this year, you can actually trade him for something...

Offense will be good. Trestman was a moron and a fuckin weirdo. Fox and Gase seem like they understand the importance of a running game, and the Bears still have one of the best running backs in the NFL. The defense should improve slightly by adding McPhee and getting rid of Mel Tucker and replacing him with Fangio. Maybe can jump to like 20-24th in DVOA there.

It's hard to make a case that this team is a playoff contender in any way, but they aren't going to be historically bad, or even a bottom 5 team IMO. I'd be surprised if they were worse than 6-10.

Who'd trade for that salary? Mind you, I want Jay out of our hair, by next year, too.

Yeah I don't see how that would happen. Cutler would need to have to play significantly better than he ever has before. By now, I'm pretty sure everyone in the NFL knows what he and isnt, and he isn't worth close to that kind of money.

Thinking you can get something better than a sixth round draft pick for Cutler is the equivalent of trying to trade two bench players in fantasy football for Jamaal Charles.

I am following you here to a point. I really do not think they could possibly be better than 500 but they should not blow like 1-15. The experts make me laugh. Year before last they almost make the playoffs and set offensive records. The experts were all on board not being able to predict the Trestman and coaching issues there apparently were. No it looks grim based on last year not knowing at all what effect new real coaches may have. Again, I do not believe much in this team but NFL is pretty unpredictable after the top 5 teams.

The thing that is going to piss Bear fans off the most in the coming years is that the book on John Fox is accurate. He's a great coach monday-saturday and will have this team looking more professional than last year, but the flip side to that coin is he is a god-awful game day coach. He will be every bit as bad as Trestman in that area, and it's going to cost them a game or two, at least, every season.

I don't remember hearing that but wouldn't doubt that FF. A lot of coaches are like that actually. Must be what makes the good versus great barrier so big.

I found one thing to like: Matt Forte, because he had one of the greatest sports quotes I've ever heard after today's game...

"The mentality of this offense, which I'm proud of, is nobody had that stupid look on their face like before."

Trestman's offense scored in the teens with a pick to end the game
