Just became FB friends with my 9 year old daughter. (Don't ask why a nine year old has an iPhone, a FB, and an HP 360, ask my wife,) and it just occured to me that while I post a lot of cute animal vids, awesome music videos, and other comedy bits), I also post a lot of drunken bullshit that I don't need her to see. Anyone know if there is a way to block her from seeing certain posts? I don't want to block everything, just the embarrassing "Oh Daddy, seriously? stuff. Thanks in advance.

When you post, there is a drop down menu that you can click that will allow you to block people from reading the post.

If she doesn't consume it on facebook, she'll consume it on another medium.

No I don't.
But I get outvoted in the parenting department almost on a daily basis, but she does ask her mommy "can I be friends with this person", and if it's a not a cousin, aunt/uncle, or friend from her class, the answer is no. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I don't think she should even have her own iPhone.......I had Star Wars guys and a black and white TV my parents let me watch in my own room when I was nine........
I think my wife's thinking is that because this is our one and only child, she spoils the hell out of her.
My kid isn't an entitled brat (yet), she usually just asks for something and ends up getting it....her bedroom looks like a Toys R Us exploded.
None of this is humblebragging.
Just hard being the only man in the house. My brother has 3 kids (+2 stepdaughters) but he lives a ways away, and I hate talking to him on the phone, so there are only so many ways to get advice........

I am grateful for mine, but if I knew 15 years ago what I know now, I may have opted for a snipjob.
Seriously.

Hold on... its not like I don't like kids. Hell, I like kids. Wanted kids for a very long time.
It's todays world they're growing up in. It's bizarre and it sucks and it's unnatural and it needs to be stopped.

I'm with you. Our kids are 8 and 11 and we already told them they will get a phone when it's time for them to have a phone. At least your daughter is asking about friending.

Pretty sure I've seen enough of your posts to assume you fall on the agnostic/atheist side of things, but I do sometimes question that even if the Bible is fiction, that maybe if more people read it (at least the New Testament) that a lot of this shit wouldn't be happening as often as it does. I could be wrong, I often am.........

Well... I'm not godless... I very much believe in a higher power. I don't buy into organized religion.

You don't think that things like faceyspace and internet and social media makes parenting a lot tougher than it was for our folks?

Of course it does, no doubt about that.

Im sure it makes it a bit tougher. I've always assumed parenting was an extremely difficult task regardless of the era though, and i believe it's more of a case of it being very different than 20 years ago as opposed to much more difficult than 20 years ago. The world is not a more dangerous place today than it used to be, it just seems that way because of the amount of information we consume daily.
