Tulane has an athletic HOF? Who knew.

His stats are better than all his peers and he'll probably play 2 or 3 more years. What he's doing in this era of RB by committee is unprecedented.

He's a compiler. He's an average to good runner & a good to great receiver out of the backfield. He isn't as anywhere near as talented at either than Roger Craig (who isn't in the HOF himself, with an integral role on a much more accomplished team)

He's not a compiler. He's a very smart and crafty workhorse. He played most of his career against 8 and 9 guys in the box (behind terrible lines) and has still been the most productive RB since he has been in the league. He has work to do but he's on pace to become a HoF back.

He's not a compiler. He's a very smart and crafty workhorse. That's my exact point, he's a workhorse. Workhorses make the HOF by their line play, or by being on winning teams, but not compiling 4.2 yard carries or 6-7 yard receptions on 2nd or 3rd & long. He played most of his career against 8 and 9 guys in the box (behind terrible lines) and has still been the most productive RB since he has been in the league. What has he "produced"? Wins Titles? Highlight reel play? He has work to do but he's on pace to become a HoF back.

Stop yourself. Right now of active RBs I don't know that I'd want him before 8-10, maybe 12 others for this year alone. Or for the last 2-3 seasons either. That never screams HOF to me.

I certainly would never pay money to watch him play football.

You said that before and most of the guys you wanted are out of the league. Your Saints would have at 1 more title if he was their RB the last 8 years.

No. Not even close to true really. Jay Cutler threw all those interceptions when he got here because they were playing the pass, not the run.

You're wrong. Also you do realize yards from scrimmage do not include return yards?

The Saints would have another title if they had a consistent pass rush, not RB production. They got tons of production from the RBs when asked, they just couldn't stop anybody since they always allowed the other QB six seconds.

I am right. Most of us have seen a ton of Bears games since '08. I highly doubt you'll find one other Bear fan agreeing with you that the first few years of Forte's career he was facing 8/9 men in the box defenses. The fact is he almost has never faced that, ever.

That's fine if you don't want to use total yards. Remove AP's 428 career return yards and he still has more per game production than Forte.

List of terms not reasonably used to describe Forte:

1. Very Explosive
2. Explosive
3. Fast
4. Shifty
5. Powerful
6. Game Breaking
7. Difficult to Bring Down
8. Eye Popping.
9. Lightning quick
10. Gifted

Perhaps, but I just don't think he was an all time great.

He certainly was one of the best of his era though. Never under 1000 yards except his last year when he was ouchy. He took over where Thurman Thomas left off sorta. Then 99 thru 03 he was fantastic. Hell for pure running back he was better than Marshall Faulk.

I like how you did that. Totals matter. Gale Sayers probably had more game production than Payton but Walter got it done for a longer period of time. Besides who has had the better offensive line? AP's numbers should be better.

Fair enough. AP also has more total rushing/receiving yards in less career games.

Forte breaks the first tackle said no one ever.
My biggest pop on Forte is how easy it is to shoelace tackle the man.

Forte's receiving yards may be the most overrated statistic of the last ten years. He is a check down artist, a release valve.

He's the plain white off the rack dress shirt of the NFL. Solid, unassuming & everybody needs a few, but no one confuses them with the top of the food/fashion chain.

My point is very clear. Forte is a borderline HoF player that will likely end his career with nearly 20k yards from scrimmage. IMO that would make him a HoF player.

Professionalism, durability, consistency. I think he's a bright guy who understands his talents and makes the most of adapting them to any system. A team loaded with guys like that win divisions every year.

Without a transcendent star, they'll be home watching the Super Bowl with the rest of us. Just like Forte will watch the induction ceremonies until guys like me are gone & guys like Nas dominate the Veterans' Committee.

the point of a RB is to brutalize the defense into submission. with forte defenses are like "ok, bye week for my body this week."

While I agree that he doesn't wear down a defense like an Earl Campbell or Walter Payton, he has great versatility and is by far the best offensive weapon they have. After this season, I will be curious to see how many teams try to sign him. For his sake, I hope he finds a home with a true contender.
