I'd feel terrible about it because my wife has no sense of direction. It would be only a matter of time before she took a wrong turn and I would get a hysterical phone call where she informs me that she is about 250 miles off course.

It's not a question of insecurity. It's a question of why you would rather be alone rather than spend time with your significant other.

That's how I would view it.

I spend a shitload of time with my significant other. Sometimes I just want to throw back a Scotch with Nas or get high with Bagels.

If I went on one it'd be somewhere historic, northeast coast, a food festival, yoga retreat, a volunteer vacation or something like that.

that sounds more like driving to a vacation destination than a road-trip. in that case, you're better off flying to close proximity, else you might find yourself tired when you get there
and then needing a vacation from your vacation when you get back.

Dunno if you're into music or have a favorite band or bands. But I band I like had/has a lot of mildly older, usually single or married with understanding husbands female fans. These women, 40's, 50's , 60's even (one or two or more by now) will fly into like Chicago or Austin from say from Florida or California, rent a car, and then drive to maybe St Louis/Houston the first day/night, see the band play The Pageant in St Louis or wherever in Houston. Then they'd drive to maybe Minneapolis or Dallas the next day night, see the band play First Avenue or wherever . Then they'd maybe end it in Chicago/Austin with the band playing there and then return their car and fly home.

They've been doing this for more than a decade and they never seem to have any issues. They'll show up at the shows by themselves but they know a lot of the people at the shows. And they have an online group they're part of. So that maybe has a security factor. People know you're out and about and expect to see you at the shows etc. Image

what'd you call me? Nah, Spanky knows em. my ex-gf was into em more than i was. She traveled a handful of extended weekends without me to do those sort of trips. Down to Texas a few times and out to Southern California once or twice and then I think she also did Seattle/Portland solo (well, without me at least).

The times i went, i found trying to meet up with the other band-centric road-trippers pre-show more of a pita than it was worth. Fun to hang with at and after the shows tho.

Must be someone under the radar. I know spanky is a big Sleater-Kinney guy, but if it were them, why not say so?

This past March there was a very contentious Aldermanic runoff election in the 45th Ward, which gave the world my favorite Boz Skaggs cover. (I love when people do parody/tribute songs and leave the solos in.)

You didn't happen to hang out with a gal named Lisa Marie at one of those shows, did you?

What a fuckin' tool John Garrido is! I'm glad Arena keeps kicking his ass. But the 45th hasn't been the same since the Levar boys were holding court in Babe's on Milwaukee Avenue.

a road trip can be a grueling endeavor depending on the distance.

driving by myself 8.5 hours to toronto a couple of years ago wasn't bad. but then you had to drive back. that sucked.

the peace is nice for a while but you can get that when your good-for-nothing companions fall asleep while you drive through canadian farmland on your way to montreal.

road trips are fun when you have a good group together that will have no issue shooting the shit for however long the distance is.

I agree, I'm not a huge fan of being in the car. I've probably spent 2 or 3 months of my life just driving to MN and back.

When did you first meet Donald Trump and at what point did he realize he could declare bankruptcy, over and over and over and over again.

 Yeah we swung through there on the way back from Lawrence, KS. First time I had been on campus in over 15 yrs. It was an easy drive from there, even
better, he could have taken the train home.

Never saw that. It is pretty good. Garrido is one of those people who is desperate to be something elected, no matter the office. It's something psychological. He became a cop because... When that didn't fulfill what he was seeking he became a lawyer because... When that didn't fulfill what he was seeking he sought office 3-4 times switching back and forth from to the party he thought gave him an advantage each time. Needy.

I'd have a difficult time voting a cop into an elected office anyway.
