Something else that just occurred to me about why the family (mom) would screw the forensics and tank the case. Maybe crazy (in Beardown's link) daddy that is a lawyer figured no way the criminal goes forward after the DNA leak. They tank the case and forensics because in the potential civil suit (shakedown) forensics are less important and lesser burden of proof etc. etc.
