I'm going to guess the last time they played three teams that were any good.

Alright, I'll be the guy.

What was their last great victory? They've won a lot of games, no argument.

But they seem to fall into the routine of winning a nonconference game against a name but undertalented school, hammer the MAC, and then get pasted in a bowl game.

Go Huskies.

The offense sucks. The play calling is abysmal. This team seems to have quit.
I've never been a Carey fan. NIU (namely AD Frazier) had a choice to make at the most critical point in NIU's history:
Doeren left for NC State prior to the Orange Bowl....and they went cheap/lazy with the in-house Carey hire.
He's never really won a big game since he got there. In-division foes don't really count, considering where this team was when he took over. They do win a lot of games, but he is so damn conservative it's painful.
Carey is in the bottom half of MAC coaches, salary wise, I believe. Hmmmm......wonder why. He sucks.
The AD is openly brazen about using NIU as a stepping stone to another job. Good luck getting that job when the football program you oversee crumbles under you watch.

Drew Hare is a much bigger problem than Ron Carey.

Drew Hare is fine. This team returned much of its offense and the defense has improved. The coaching staff is just incorrectly utilizing Hare. Its not like he was out there throwing bad passes and getting intercepted. He had issues gripping the ball in the constant downpour. Did anyone on the coaching staff think to themselves, maybe we should give him some gloves to help him grip the ball?

The offense is in complete shambles and the special teams outside of the return game are awful. What's with the constant fake jet sweep plays which aren't doing anything? Even the commentators asked why we kept doing it. A kicker with a weak leg who can't kickoff into the endzone and misses easy FGs, missed PATs, and punter who shanks or drops punts. Please take Desroy Maxwell off the field, all he does is commit penalty after penalty.

Rod Carey had no business getting the HC position. There is a reason he is not paid more money. His resume was not deserving of more pay. Spanky is right, they took the easy/cheap route and just hired a guy who was a position coach at lower levels rather than doing a coaching search.

Some of it is talent (bad punter/kicker). Most of it is coaching (constant OL penalties, benching a QB for a freshman with virtually no experience, trying to run the same plays over and over with no success, etc).

The road out of the top 25 will be a long and painful one.

No.
They are good, even though they have been hit hard by injuries this year.

Really?

They scream "Classic Overrated ND Team" to me.

Like, I have to plug my ears.

Illinois just went 19 yards in 4 plays and weren't given a first down. Never seen anything like it.

Even review got it wrong.

I caught that series on the radio driving home today.
The ILL announcers did their best to explain what happened....I had no idea what was going on.
I wish I could have seen that on TV. Inexcusable.

But......2 wins from a bowl berth. Totally saw that coming when they fired their coach while he was walking out of his front door to go to the 1st game.

Cubit was losing his mind. They retroactively called 3rd down a 4th down and gave Nebraska the ball. That was the worst crew I've ever seen.

They did 4 reviews in 39 seconds of game time.

‏@BrianHamiltonSI
College Officials Consortium publicly acknowledges "breakdown of officiating mechanics” in Nebraska-Illinois that cost Illini a down.

Ya think? Officiating mechanics should include the ability to count to 4.

I wonder if they will address the play that happened at the end of the game where Illinois completed a pass, ran another play completely, and then the refs reviewed the catch from 2 plays ago and just ignored the play that was run after it and ran it again from the previous line of scrimmage.

Didn't hurt the Illini but, again, a play I'd not seen before. It was the worst crew of all time. OF ALL TIME!

On the opposite end, Sark is a dumbass and a dipshit. Kicks a field goal on 4th down when the team is down by 5 with less than 4 minutes left. The kick was no good and USC never got the ball again. Dude's a clown and might not last the year.

Forced indefinite leave of absence for being too drunk to show up to practice.
