That was some really, really, really (familiar) bad radio.

Murph has always been astonishingly bad. Like someone doing a bit.

Remember that French guy on WGN several years ago?

I thought that was someone doing a bit.

But it wasn't.

Now he's a male prostitute in Newark.

Murph should be working at an ACE Hardware store fishing through a box of mismatched nuts and bolts trying to find one that matches one a customer brought in.

Simon Badinter! What a terrible idea that was.

I caught a bit too, accidentally. Murph is still terrible and Fred balances him out even less now, but I'd still take them in the morning over the current alternatives. Murph still does his cringeworthy bits, had a caller that he was trying to get to play along with starting a Jake Arrieta beard company (by cracky) and the poor caller didn't get that Murph was joking and he eventually hung up. That and Murph's polls (TM) are still going strong. It's Murph really dragging the show down. It's too bad. Fred used to at least be a counterpoint and they worked together.

The Limerick Lounge.
Back of the envelope math.
I predict.

It's amazing this guy even got a crack at being on the air in a major market.

I'll take Chauncey and his Native American proverbs over them any day of the week.

I use to religiously listen to sports talk but I've cut waaaaay back recently. I like Waddle & Silvy and surprisingly, I like Hub when he's not talking football. Other than that, I find myself changing the station quite often these days.

He reads them so solemnly with that hokey music playing in the background.

and yet he was...for decades...with good listenership numbers

Murph is comfortable/comforting radio, like stopping at a farmer's market on a drive in the country

He's too Cubcentric for my tastes but at least he isn't a fucking phony.

It's not too cub centric on Saturdays. I can't listen to baseball talk for long and never liked Murph's show when he was on. As gd and walkr said there is something okay about it on Saturday mornings when you are doing errands or driving somewhere. It's sports centric, honest, takes calls, they have opinions, etc.

Every Saturday during tax season, I would write the proverb down and leave it on my coworker's desk. Took him a while to figure out from where I was getting them.

I know I'm a meatball but maybe that's why I identify with Murph. He does get very anal about his radio bits.
