28 year old #2 pitcher for $15 million v. 33 year old CF for $15 million

Just talking to a friend who made the point that no way could they resign Garland, but it was OK to sign Hunter for the same money.

If the reason they traded Garlnd was because he was in his last year of a deal, then we got a new guy in the last year of his deal??????

And the guy we got , plays the same position of the guy we resigned?

If our plan is to win this year, are we in a better position?????????

My immediate feeling for this team is 4th place and the love of 2005 is all dried up.

Even though they probably wouldn't have kept Garland beyond this season, I still believe keeping him would have given the White Sox the best chance of having a good season.

Now, they have bad starters in the #3-#4-#5 spots, and have a SS who is eligibile for free agency after the season, and is 33 years old.

If they had traded Garland, I thought it would be for younger players who could contribue this season.

It was an economics situation. A number 2/3 starter sees 30-40 starts a year and when you already have almost 40M tied up in Buerhle, Contreras and Vasquez. If they had been able to move contreras, this might not have been an issue but with Jose still there, they had to move someone.

They would have paid 15M for an everyday player but they couldn't have 50M tied in the starting pitching when their total payroll would be in the 100 range.

Does Cabrera now count as our free agent signing as well?

Sorry, but I keep thinking how fragile this organization is , and that is just struggling to be decent.

If we trade for Crisp or Crawford, both of thsoe guys are in final years of deals, so if Carbrera and Crisp/Crawford do well, we need to pay them free agent money to keep them, plus we have to trade soemthing just to get them.

I'm not sure of Crawford's contract status, but I believe Crisp is under contract for about $5 million for the next two seasons.

I don't think Boston will trade Crisp before the season starts, but will plan on moving him during the season.

Assuming Elsbury performs, then Epstein will see what his Club needs and look to get that. He will not just get rid of a quality player for no reason.

As I review each team, I am aslo looking wher they think they are dealing Crede and I have come up with only Houston and Baltimore, as whoever tries to acquire him they are going to try and sign him, thus the small market teams are out of the picture and any team that has a 3rd baseman, is also out of the picture, any team in the divsion is out.

Crawford has 3/$23.5 remaining on his contract (that's why he's so much in demand) and Crisp has 3/$18.5. I can see KW going after Crisp but not Crawford. He can't play CF and he's going to cost a TON of talent.
