I don't want to hear Doc Emrick and I miss Patrick Sharp. Also do some of the camera angles seem different?

"Why's that Edzo?"

(Yes I know Pierre is the Edzo guy. I just get a kick out of saying Edzo in his voice.)

I love Doc.
My Wife is still pissed that Sharp is gone. She has a Sharp jersey and now has decided that Seabrook is her new favorite Hawk and wants his jersey.
The camera angles look the same to me.

The aerial camera for power plays is probably an NBC initiative. The rest of the cameras look great to me. This arena was originally built for the Flyers only (76ers were supposed to move to Camden), so I'm guessing they really optimized the camera wells. Philly cares.

Neither team looks great yet, but at least our roster looks better than Philadelphia's. Hoo boy, that gets dire fast.

No score yet, but Kane and Panarin were fun to watch at 4 on 4.

I think it's great. It's good to use that perspective on power plays so you can get a better view of how lanes are opening and closing. Canucks games use a lot of aerial cameras and I think it looks terrific.

I liked this Bob McKenzie fellow. Were the things he was saying about the Flyers on the money?

Bobby Mac is the best insider in the league. I'm glad NBC picked him up now that TSN is down to Jets/Sens/half the Leafs only.

That said, I don't watch intermissions. What did he say?

Hawks @ Philadelphia is basically an automatic loss, probably won't be sticking around for the rest of this one. Hawks look sloppy and anemic.

Go figure that Eddie gives some guarded praise of Svedberg moments before he slips and falls and Gagner scores.

He was talking about the Flyers need to rebuild but are in a tough spot because the fan-base won't allow it but on the other hand, Hextall can't do anything substantial because of their financial restrictions. He said if they do things right, as far as rebuilding, they could be a force in 4 to 5 years because some of their current core would still be young enough to contribute.

I know most if not all fan-bases don't want a rebuild, and I'm sure the Philly faithful look at the Sixers plight and say "No thanks." However, they could also take a gander at the Phillies and realize what type of hell you find your team in when they wait too long to tear things down.

Yes, this is correct, plus I would add that Ed Snyder himself has no patience for a long-term rebuild. Philadelphia has without question the best American fanbase in the NHL, and a lot of that is because of how hard Snyder has worked for damn near 50 years to present a perennially entertaining and meaningful product. I'm sure the feeling is that the team will find a way to get themselves right back in it as they always have. They do have a lot of great young talent (Giroux, Voracek, Couturier), but it falls off hard after that. I'm not sure what kind of wizardry they'll be able to come up with in order to turn their crap into gold.

They were never in this game. Taking six penalties is unacceptable. There must be something about Philadelphia that makes this team not give a fuck there year after year. One win since the Eric Daze era, and none in the regular season.

The roster needs some retooling. Ryan Garbutt isn't good enough to play on a team with championship aspirations, Bickell has nothing, and Svedberg has all the grace of Shawn Bradley.

Seriously, anyone want to tell me how Ryan Garbutt is more deserving of a roster spot than Daniel Paille? I would like to know. Seriously, is Paille missing a limb? Because I see one guy in his early thirties who has contributed to numerous contending teams over many years versus another guy in his early thirties rounding out a wild card/lottery team for a few years. And even if Paille is finished, why not play a kid?

al morganti would probably agree with you. the flyers fans i know recognize the flyers script pretty well; no unrealistic expectations and just hoping for a miracle as usual.

You gotta hand it to them, though, they do it their way. When they do try to deviate from their model (run and gun, punch people, disregard goaltending) by doing things like signing Bryzgalov, it blows up in their faces and they go back to what they were doing, but worse (hey, let's have Berube coach the team!). And then you have trading Mike Richards and Jeff Carter for I Dunno Stuff I Guess because they did too much booze and coke by hockey standards, which was still a terrible move that the franchise still hasn't recovered from.

Agreed on Garbutt, not sure what he does that relates to hockey.

If Svedberg is trying to stick as your 6th, it might be okay. He's going to get exposed post haste skating top 4 minutes.

He's getting exposed on third-pair minutes. He just seems too lanky and unwieldy. Plays too soft for his giant frame. We're in some real trouble if Daley can't play, Rundblad can't play, Svedberg can't play, and no one else is ready. Sounds like Stan is looking for a defenseman already, though.

that's another thing we know we don't have. a freakin goalie. i guess we were spoiled through the 80's and 90's between bob froese, pelle lindbergh and ron hextall...

we were none to pleased with losing richards, carter and gagne. that's for sure.

My favorite Ron Hextall story, apocryphal as it may be, is the one about how he tried to deny being Ron Hextall while standing at a checkout counter writing a check.

The Flyers burn through goalies like the Bears burn through quarterbacks but I wouldn't have it any other way. At least they don't subject their loyal fans to six-goalie-system bullshit or whatever the Hurricanes do where they try to be like the Wings but don't have the weapons for it so they just float around and get abused. Always a fun team to watch.

that's awesome.... was he denying it to people around him or to the store?

only time i remember something like that was being at a cubs game and there was this guy in our section with an old white curly mini-jewfro and eventually my uncle turns around and points at him like HEY YOU'RE DON SUTTON and people around him started going "OH HEY HE'S RIGHT" and sutton got up and started motherfucking him as he ran off.
