Little bit preoccupied by football and baseball at the moment but I did watch the first 30 minutes. Not much to cheer about yet.

Early in a post-Cup retooling year. I'll care more when December rolls around.

curious hair is the hockey hero that the board needs, but doesn't deserve.

i have one song reference thread title in me for this season, but since blackhawks regular season games aren't a big deal to me it's not like i'm chomping at the bit to make threads when needed.

btw remo i see that a certain twitter legend followed me, so i hope i'm up to snuff for what i do (and contrary to public caricature i really dont tweet that much, if at all.... shit over the last 6 months i think most of my tweets are just instagram dumps) but you know that tweet you got about how EVERY TIME KANE SCORES THIS MUG GETS FILLED UP 3 TIMES.... well have i got a mug for you sir

Viktor Tikhonov is a high-IQ, high-motor guy. That's nice to have. He shouldn't be outperforming star players.

I'm not ready to close the book on Kyle Baun, but good god, the kid needs some flight miles (bus miles?) in the AHL. He just does not belong here. Svedberg is still a mess.

3-0, that's game, going on six straight periods without a goal. Kinda needed this win, you need at least a 6-every-5 pace to maybe make the playoffs in the West and they're already off the pace.

The defenseman we were adding turned out to be Kyle Cumiskey, by the way.

oh and to save IMU some work....

see if you didnt catch it originally in the last game thread he quoted himself later.... it's fucking HEEEEE-LARIOUS cuz see, he's a cubs fan and since their total tank/draft-high/rebuild plan worked now everyone in every sport is supposed to do that, and yah, sicne the hawks lost an early regular season game, hehhehhe *gigglefit*, yeah the hawks are supposed to tank the season to be more like the cubs!!! it's fucking hilarious cuz like, you know, even tho the hawks have 3 cups in 6 years or whatever the cubs are poised to do so much better that everyone needs to do what they do cuz like, yeah, 3 world series championships in 6 years would be massively underachieving for this cubs team.

oh, and in case you forgot that he said it in the time it took me to write this post....

IMU wrote:

now IMU should be free to do other worldly things, like watch smackdown or scout th next victim for the cubs!

oh, and in case you forgot in the time it took me to write that sentence...

Toews looks not-himself. Hiding an injury, maybe?

Both he and Hossa have been anemic so far this year. Outside of Kane and Panarin their forwards really have been bad all year. This team isn't a lot of fun to watch .

Yeah, even Teravainen looked like garbage last night, and he's generally smart and hard-working. This team's capacity to be bad will always astound me. You'd think there would be a floor there.

This could be a 2011 redux. Count the players who don't belong in the NHL. Yesterday's Jake Dowell and Jassen Cullimore are today's Kyle Baun and Kyle Cumiskey. Captain Eight-Figure is to thank.

ehhh i wouldn't be too worried right now cuz 1) they had the longest season in the NHL and 2) prolly the most partying in the offseason and 3) by now anyone on this team prolly thinks they just gotta make the playoffs and they can flip a switch, whether that's total folly or not.

of course, i dont wanna turn into a board stereotype of being all THE SKY ISN'T FALLING, CURIOUS LITTLE! cuz you know way more about this stuff than i do and if it worries you it prolly should worry me, but generally i'd think that the hawks aren't going to be the quickest starting in the league, esp coming off of a cup year, given that they usually have the longest seasons in the league b4 prolly the best/longest/hardest party season in the league.

I was at my son's game. Caught some in the lobby and watching it now.

The Southwest ice arena in Crestwood is top notch. They have booze, I did not have any but the option is always nice.

I'm thinking they miss Saad a lot more on that line than everyone thought. He was always the second best player on that line and did a ton of work on the boards and in the cycle. Q hasn't found anyone to fill that roll.

Another big problem is the total lack of scoring from the bottom 2 lines.

But, honestly I think these last couple games have been a bit of an abberation due to poor finishing. In both games we had plenty of chances early to get on the board and just couldn't get it done. I think Panarin hit 3 posts in the last two games. And HOltby was on fire last night.

I wouldn't get too alarmed about these last couple games is what I'm saying, but that said, Q has to find a way to get that top line going. I'm guessing he will do what he usually does whenever Toews line is struggling and Kane's line is doing well...he'll take someone off of Kane's line and move him up to Toews line. So I wouldnt' be surprised to see Panarin up there with Toews and Hossa soon and then some plug with Kane.

Hit three posts? Who cares? That's not even a shot on goal.

The Hawks ability to be bad" is no different than any other teams. The NHL season is a marathon, not a sprint. Its no different than baseball or basketball. All teams lay a few eggs in a long season, you just notice the local teams more because you watch more of their games.
