And if you take away Jeter you have almost no WS rings on that squad. Take away Jeter and you have what 2-3 WS appearances, and Jim Edmonds pretty much was a non-factor in them iirc.

I sure as hell wouldn't pay to see that team play. :)

Bob Gibson is missing from RPBs list as starting pitcher.. Or Drysdale.

Preaching to the choir (although as a kid I loved Mattingly and Sandberg)

Jerks win. Manny Ramirez is one of my all time favorite players. So is Rickey.

The right way is whatever way it takes to win, baby. (at the pro level)

I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that there are people in the world who do not like the great Don Mattingly.

We cannot blame this great legend for slugging doubles all over the field while surrounded by incompetence. The great Don Mattingly could only bat once in the order, and could only play one position in the field.

If there was a team made up entirely of the great Don Mattingly and clones of the great Don Mattingly, that team would have won the World Series every single year that he played. That is a fact, just like it is a fact that you cannot try to zip a fastball past Don Mattingly without having that ball smashed off the outfield wall for a stand up double.

I can't remember the last time I heard Mattingly speak, but whenever I see him I think of Brian Billick.

Hopefully he'll just as employed as Billick next year.

Might help if he had happy veterans.

Since he played in NY, he can't help but be overrated.
I stand with RR on this one, but there's other Yankees a despise more.

Jeter
A-Rod
Clemens
Torre

As much as I hate him, Id bet most Yankee fans consider Roger to be a true Yankee

Think of what he did to Boston

He left the Red Sox seemingly washed up and ended up on the Yankees a couple years later winning a WS and beating Boston on the way

Yeah, I know. But I don't think Johnny Damon or Wade Boggs are Yankees either.

Damon gets a pass because he won in Boston and Boggs was never bad on the Sox

Clemens fucked them hard

Many Red Sox fans would disagree with you

This isnt a hall of fame discussion like which hat should the guy wear. Im just talking about Yankee fans loving him for what he did with them to their rival.

Torre managed the Yankees for YEARS. On numerous occasions I heard him spew out "well, it goes along with wearing the pin stripes". Fuck Joe Torre and his pin stripes.

Clemens is both a Red Sox and Yankee. Isn't he also a Blue Jay? He was, after all, in George's Box! Douche.

Despite playing for other teams, A-Rod is 100% yankee and 100% douche.

Clemens was an Astro for my prime baseball-watching years but in the grand scheme of things he's a Red Sock who joined the dark side for championships. I suppose A-Rod is a true Yankee at this point.
