He's having a good year. Why not do it with your best RB since Walter? Only for one year, and see what shape he's in next year.

Would be a mistake to sign him to any long-term deal, though. Wrong position for that at his age, even though Forte has proven durable.

Are you serious?

I take back what I said about Alshon. He's the Real Deal.

I think that would be a mistake. They need to house clean the head coach. Not sharp enough. They need the Joe Maddon of football.

I like both Matt and Alshon and hope they're both back.

He just took the Michigan job.

But they're going to have to give Alshon a long-term deal.

He's worth it. He's in the running for GOAT Bears receiver in year three.

Alshon is the only one I'd really go back and forth on there. I like Forte, Jay and Marty to some degree as a fan, but I don't see any of them being part of a 'future' with a team going through a rebuilding process.

That said, Jay's solid as a starter and a much better option sadly than most of what else is out there. If they can't find a QB in the draft they think is worth a shit, or some spectacular free agent option, I wouldn't be mad at Jay sticking around for a while. As frustrating as he can be to watch at times.

And just throwing this out there but.. a feel like Forte has actually improved slightly each of the last 3 years. At least by the eye test. He has always been good, but I feel like he has played his best football the past 3 years or so. Shame its been wasted on teams going no where. Part of me not minding him moving on would be in hopes of him landing on a team ready to make a run and him going out and halping them get somewhere. As a fan, I wouldn't mind that happening.

I think if you make the right moves at other positions in the draft and free agency and Jay gets hot at the right time, you can have a shot at winning an SB with him.

This is a bad bit.. It's gotta be . I'd trade Forte today for a 6th round pick..and you want to tag him for 9 million next year.

Teams with those records can be contenders the next season with the right moves in the off season. You can break through mediocrity in the NFL much quicker than you can in other leagues.

I'd like to see Forte back behind a better O-line. He would be unstoppable.

I don't think they can rule this out; in the NFL, you don't get 5 year re-building plans. You get 3 years tops (if you're Pace) to get this turned around. Another season of Forte at high end is valuable.

The offense, next season, can be dynamic if you keep the current group and they hit on their 1st round pick.

If they believe their 4th round pick can pick up the load (not uncommon in the NFL), you at least, involve him more. Ex. Forte (at a franchise price gets reduced carries), but is pre-served for a play-off run.

Bears should have cap space (and another higher draft pick) too add to the roster next season.

The Bears will not deal Cutler away. And you're not going to get a better QB than him in the draft. It's Cutler at least through 2018.

But I'm ok with that. He's down from two or three picks a game to one.

Cutler has played fine so far this season; that will need to continue for him to be back next season since that will mean they would likely win enough games and not be in a position to land the higher-end QB's in this draft. I don't think Pace/Fox want to get rid of a QB who can help them win given how tough it is to win in this league.

Given the state of QB play around the league, whether he's here or elsewhere next season, Cutler will have no issue finding a starting job and being in demand if on the open market.

Buffalo, NYJ, Cleveland, Houston, Jacksonville, Denver, KC, Philly, Detroit, New Orleans, and SF (off the top of my head) are all potential landing spots for a veteran QB on the open market. On the open market, Cutler could command elite/franchise money if he finishes the year playing well.

Unlikely that Forte gets franchised now that he's hurt.

If he comes back this season, it will be the last games Forte ever plays as a Bear.

They ain't gonna pay him.

Hopefully Langford makes this an easy decision but the Rams are not the Chargers

Nor should they.

Thanks for everything Matt. It's time to move on. Nice 4th round pick by Pace.

Bears really messed up by not trading him, windows closed on that.

Forte gets dissed for being the greatest Bears RB in the last 25 years or so. I think it's the replaceable part syndrome current in the NFL. RB's are thought of as throwaway pieces.

I think Forte is done with the Bears, especially after Langfords performance last night. This team has improved a lot since week 1 on both sides of the ball, including Cutler and if he continues to play like he has, he might be back too. I really like what Gace is doing with the offense. He gets the plays in quickly and Jay is releasing the ball quickly. 6 - 8 wins for the beloved is realistic now given the Bears improvement and easy schedule.

I think Gase might be gone from the Bears after this season. He would be a good fit for the Lions HC job (assuming Jim Caldwell gets fired), especially considering Gase’s ties to the Lions organization.

I hope not. Jay has had what, 5 or 6 OC's with the Bears? They need to stick with a system for longer than 1 year at a time.

I think it would be a mistake for Pace to take a HC job after this season. He'll be garbage picking the worst jobs in the NFL.

But if he stays another year and does good, he can pretty much have any job he wants.
