From the Tribune...

Bears cut Jeremiah Ratliff after argument with general manager Ryan Pace.

Chicago Bears cut veteran defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff on Thursday, a day after he and general manager Ryan Pace had a charged conversation at the front of team headquarters.

Releasing Ratliff comes as a surprise in a strictly football context. He was regarded by coaches as one of their best defensive linemen, if not the best. But after what sources said was a heated altercation involving Ratliff on Wednesday morning at Halas Hall, the Bears chose quickly to cut ties with the 34-year-old lineman.

“We felt moving forward without Jeremiah was in the best interest of our team,” Pace said in a statement released by the team. “We appreciate his contributions and wish him well.”

Lake Forest police were summoned to Halas Hall on Wednesday afternoon after the incident with Ratliff had died down. Three squad cars were seen in the parking lot of the team facility not long after the Bears finished their final practice of the bye week. The police presence was in connection to the incident that involved Ratliff.

Ratliff’s apparent row with Pace on Wednesday morning was not his first run-in with team officials.

Last Dec. 26, Ratliff caused a disturbance at what turned out to be coach Marc Trestman's final practice, and he was escorted out of the facility by team personnel. Still, he was allowed to start the season finale at the Minnesota Vikings that Sunday.

Ratliff was also suspended by the NFL for the first three games of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. That stemmed from his guilty plea in April to a DWI charge that resulted from a crash in January 2013.

As a veteran respected for his tenacity and work ethic, Ratliff was often a tone setter for the Bears over the past two years. But his explosive temper was also known to coaches and teammates.

The Bears, it appears, made a decision Thursday to prioritize their growingteam chemistry and a culture that has been overwhelmingly positive under Pace and new coach John Fox.

Attempts to reach Ratliff for comment have been unsuccessful. Ratliff's agent Mark Slough declined to speak on the matter.

To replace Ratliff on the roster, the Bears signed former Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Ziggy Hood.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune contributed to this story

You are probably right. Make the line in the sand. He does not matter to the future.

Fucking Belichek cut a dude for being late to a meeting after rushing for 200 yards the week before. Going nose to groin with a coach probably not a good idea.

The story here is not Ratliff getting cut, rather the Bears shushing the press corps to not report the story.

You can't assume that anything coming out of H.H. is true any more. McCaskeys live in a fantasy world, uttering such stupidity that the Bears are on the right track after starting 2-4, when they could be 4-2, including a win over Green Bay, with better head coaching.

It's not even that Fox is too conservative. He has made bad decisions at key times, which any lay fan recognizes. And these are the people that are supposed to be smartest in football.

If Fox screws up again, he should be fired for incompetence. How is he any better than Philbin in underachieving? I'm sick of the excuses the Bears are one, two or three years away. No, the goal is to win, and Fox is getting in the way of his team winning. If that's the case, he should step aside.

The story is that it happened the day before it was reported and at least 2 main reporters held the story???? So the story is either the 2 reporters are asked to hold it? They agreed to hold the story?

Both ZZ and JD think they work for the Bears....and this is the problem with a Beat guy who works for years on the same beat....they become part of the organization, in many cases. Biggs, Moon are respected, but not loved by the Bears.

he should have just tripped over his dog at home and not shown up to practice that day

Now, he is probably done in the league.

So you would just let it go? Pace made the correct decision to fire a malcontent.

There are some crazy stories out there about Spellman. If memory serves me, Favre had a scary/odd on field incident with him when he (Spellman) was in Detroit lol

Can't remember the story tbh, but it had to do with something Alonzo told him after a play.

Bears have a long history of trying to control the media with the theat of kicking them out, since the Gale Sayers injury, it has been an issue.

When this is all you know about running a team, its all you do.

Realistically, what are the chances the McClaskey's sell once Virginia passes on? Is it a forgone conclusion or will there be some family members who'll fight it and want to take over for themselves?

From the outside looking in, the Bear seem as though they're behind the times and always will be under their present structure.

Jerry Jones got rid of this guy. Jerry Jones will take ANYBODY on his team. I think the big bitch sat out about 8 months after he should have been fully healed from a hernia procedure....so in other words he was Derrick Rose.
