wonder if they can sustain reasonable quality. those Uno's places you see in airports ect. are terrible. maybe they are out of business now.

Have to remember the difference between a franchise and expansion.

Unos is a franchise. You want to open one, you can. You want to open a Lous...you cant.

Another thing is that they use their own tomatoes. They grow their own in California. Making it easier to get them to AZ and maintain that quality.

The only issue with Lous is that they get so busy, they sometimes, dont cook the pizza enough. Always need to put that request in. Well done.

Same issue with Homerun Inn. ordered it last night, new one in Lakeview. First, just way too expensive. Second. Not cooked enough and it wasnt busy. Thats why you never show up early to pick up your pie!! They will take it out early....just when it need another 3 mins!

There are still some around. Apparently Uno's franchised the name, but didn't share their recipe with the franchise owners. Whoops!

Agree 100%

The only problem I have ever had with Lou's is when the pizza is undercooked.

But then again, I only regularly order from the Lincolnwood or Evanston locations, which are both very reliable.

Fantastic that Arizona will now be treated to Chicago's 48th best deep dish pizza.

Had the same problem at Pequod's yesterday. Actually considered sending it back to cook longer but decided against it. I was really hungry.

I think there is still one in Gurnee but I haven't eaten there in over 10 years. Didn't know that about franchising the name but letting the owners come up with
their own recipe. Seems to go against putting your name on a product. :eye:

Unfortunately this is the time of year that relatives come to visit and their only requests are Lou's and Portillo's. So I'll be eating this 3-4 times over the next 8 weeks.

And I agree that the thin is better than the deep.

My father in law lives in Florida, so when he comes to visit, he has his list of places where he wants to eat. Portillo's and Lou's are on the list.

Might not even be that high.

The most overrated things in Chicago are Navy Pier, Jim Cornelison, and Lou Malnati's. Now I am not saying that those three things are terrible, but with each of them you can do significantly better...and without all that much effort either.

I'm still sort of confused where the line between deep dish and stuffed is drawn.

I use them interchangeably, along with "Chicago style"

Can't trust a guy's taste in pizza if he doesn't like Lou's. Hipster/Contrarion vibe is strong here.

take for instance, Giordano's vs. Lou's. Not even close to the same species. Giordano's (or Gino's) is stuffed. Lou's is deep dish. I like them both, but not same species.

You don't strike me as a guy that enjoys many different types of food...or a guy that is willing to try other options once he finds a favorite.

Additionally...it is hard to follow someone that could have a strong opinion on pizza but thinks all breakfast food is the same?

Give me another dining establishment Owned by the company, that is a family owned business the size of Lous.

They arent making it on the back of some $100 mill hedge fund investment, some Franchise sales scam or other false investment. They are making it on the back of a family business that serves a great product and works their asses off. Unmatched.

Frank and IMU, who has better deep dish than Lou's?

I personally rank them #1 in that department.

Imu you can just admit now how you have misjudged me regarding the variety of pizzas I have tried. Long timers here may even vouch for my pizza rating scale.

Will you admit if others suggest you wrong about me?

I did not know that bigfan's "pizza scale" was Bible, and the end all be all of food rankings.

I hang my head in shame. Maybe one day I can be cool enough to start up The Organization That Eats And Then Rates Pizza.

You misjudge the value I put in other people's opinions. Even my IDIOT FRIENDS. Your own opinions documented among various Food threads over the last decade say more than you asking others to vouch for you could.

Lou's drink prices seemed pretty reasonable. I got a pint of Beard Sniffer stout for $5.

I would like the same info. In my experience, not too many places can claim even to come close to Lou's...
