sooo i turn on the game and it's 56-49 minnesota and i hear that jimmy butler is scoreless at this point in the game (assuming late late 2Q / early early 3Q) --- and that explains a lot cuz if he's not picking up 15+ that means it's basically up to derrick to pick up the slack for him (and it takes him no less than 3-4 tries to pick up that slack b4 he actually picks it up =) cuz it's not like pau has been tearing it up this season:

Pau Gasol 12.3 PT .478 of 11.5 FG .667 of 2.0 FT .000 of 0.8 3P 8.2/1.8 RB 2.00 AS 2.00 BL 0.83 ST 1.17 TO 1.50 PF 28.8 MN 6/6 GS

and if you wanna see some really scary shit...

Joakim Noah 2.3 PT .375 of 2.7 FG .250 of 1.3 FT -- 3P 6.5/1.7 RB 3.00 AS 0.67 BL 0.67 ST 2.00 TO 2.83 PF 19.9 MN 6/0 GS

and let's check on this team's x-factor (IMO)

Nikola Mirotic 13.7 PT .397 of 10.5 FG .900 of 3.3 FT .389 of 6.0 3P 6.0/1.0 RB 0.83 AS 0.50 BL 0.83 ST 2.67 TO 2.00 PF 26.9 MN 6/6 GS

so yeah until we can get gasol up towards ~18ppg and hopefully get mirotic to that level (cuz right now mirotic is about as much of the offense as pau is, and i think that's something he's not quite ready for... so unless he wants to surge up to ~20ppg and be the bigtime third scorer that this team needs (cuz i always said that derrick has to be the third leading scorer on the bulls for them to have a chance at legit contending, and that would mean you have 2 other ~20+ ppg guys) then i'd say let's get pau a little bit more involved cuz i wanna see at least 18/8 from pau.... ride him until the wheels fall off and use that time to develop mirotic, who is the x-factor cuz i think ultimately the bulls will be about as good as mirotic is.

aaaand butler just got his first bucket on an and-1! at least he got on the board b4 halftime.

btw in the first half wiggins has 22pts (8/14 shooting 4/5 3PT) and i swear to god lebron is gonna rue the day he sent him over to minnesota to get kevin love. yeah, k-love is a better fit to the cavs' puzzle immediately, but in wiggins he had a chance to have a legit running mate for the rest of his career and then they coulda eventually found someone to come to cleveland to get some rebounds and stick the occasional mid-to-long-range jumper.

then again maybe with kyrie and lebron and wiggins they thought there were too many chefs in the kitchen? not enough shots for all of them? c'est la vie, i'd rather have the rookie who has a long bright future ahead of them as lebron ages than trying to get a stat-pumping white guy who gives you as little as a 2yr window to win it all..... especially when we KNOW how good lebron is at closing out championships without d-wade there to be batman down the stretch / in the clutch.

welp gasol is putting in work tonight (15+ in the first half) and derrick is amazingly sitting on 11pts with 3/6 shooting! man any night where you can get derrick over 40% shoting is a win right there, cuz right now 11pts on 6 shots is almost 2pts/shot and as you know derrick is usually right around/under 1pt/shot. he's gotta be way more efficient cuz he just doesnt have the size to be an out-n-out scorer, and even tho i dont think steph curry is that much taller than 6'3" if he even is at all, yeah, there's just a WEE bit of difference in terms of (jump-)shooting ability between derrick and steph curry.

man i yelled out BAD SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!! when derrick stpped up into that 17ft top of the key jumper and sure enough he bricked that shit and then the timberpups missd a FT so we're tied. at least jimmy got baseline and took his star call/foul. now hit these FTs and get a stop PLZ.

...so of course the timberwolves walkup the court give the ball to wiggins who had a mismatch on taj and he just worked him straight to the hole with a spin move for the dunk. man we just got SONNED on that possession. tie game / our ball with 55.5 left

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand after missing our shot relatively quickly they get the ball and come on down and the bulls stick em with defense for 15-20secs..... then tayshaun prince goes left from the 3pt line all the way to the basket for an easy LH layup.

holy shit man, you know, it's infuriating to see teams in crunch time come on down and absolutely WORK US for dunks and layups. they dont even have to stick a tough shot.... and on the 2nd possession the bulls were tough on defense until that tayshaun sonning us going left.

and then MAN mirotic with a really really nice take but he was just off and pau was able to tip it in to tie it. if i had any faith in us not giving up a dunk or a layup (or i suppose a wide open <10ft shot) i'd have confidence to win this

aaaand overtime. we got bailed out there bigtime, cuz 2 plays after wiggins got the mismatch on taj and worked him down for a turnaround dunk, the play was basically "get wiggins the mismatch with taj, get him the ball and get the fuck out of the way" --- but for whatever reason wiggins just stood at the 3pt line til 4-5 seconds left then did a little hesistation fake-drive inside and pulled back for a wild fadeaway jumper like 6" in front of the 3pt line and he airballed it.

i guess that's youth coming through cuz he was so worried about getting the last shot that he stood way the fuck out there and forced himself into a 20ft jumper as he prolly wanted to hit a gamewinning jumper to get the win, when in reality... man 2 plays ago he absolutely worked taj all the way down to the hole and dunked it.... why didnt he try it again?

ah well timberpups with an offensive board and a layup..... and derrick got to the glass and got it rejected. i think the wolves should close us out in OT, and a light call on rubio = they finna go up 4 now. sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit here we go.

or well here me go cuz you lames are out having lives =P

welp they're getting layups / offensive rebounds / fouls. we're getting 25ft mirotic spot up 3pt airballs. finna go down 7 here and this ballgame is OVAH....

[promising steal to a breakaway in minnesota's paint]

and another turnover from a breakaway layup chance.

nobdoy on the bulls can score right now and we can't stop minnesota. we're dead now... minnesota ball up 98-93 with 1:50 left, so when they go up 7-8 here I PRONOUNCE THIS BALLGAME AS O-VAH.

wow after the last possession (down 5 circa 1min left) we missed 2-3 FGs/3PTs and stacey king says we're 1 for our last 17 from the field. and now minnesota got an and-1 with 30sec left so up 7 with 30secs left/!?!?! yeargh.

yeah this one hurts/sucks/etc. i know it's early and STFU.... but hey i can hang my hat on dan bernstein saying THE BULLS HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO LOSE GAMES!

well they learned how to lose this one by getting outworkd on the offensive glass down the stretch and getting totally sonned for layups and dunks in the last 3-4mins of the games. on a night where nobody had their shooting touch and you coulda snuck a game against a young-n-rising team with a little motherfucker there in wiggins you just kinda pissed down your own leg and let the hungrier team snatch the game from you.

it's one thing if you have a shitty shooting night and/or the other team shoots you out of the building, granted. but to have this team just get hustle/effort offensive rebounds and to come back down the stretch / pull ahead in overtime on the strength of layups and cuts/drives and dunks.... man it's not like they're sticking big mid-range/3pt shots.... they're just taking easy layups and floaters and stuff. that sucks.

SHORE IT UP HOIBERG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

positive thing = pau showed up tonight. that's a good sign going forward cuz you need 17-18ppg from him as opposed to 12-13. and uhhh....man. if derrick wants to get a full boat contract in 2017 he has to either 1) develop a jump shot or 2) learn how to play within his new post-injury/jumperless game. seriously if derrick could stick a jumper even now he'd be a cromulent player.... but i guess since he's had 3-4 years of mostly injury-time, maybe he's finding himself?

hey derrick, find yourself in the gym @ 6am every morning spending 4-5hrs/day on your jumpshot. if you have any dreams of the HOF you need to develop a stone cold jumper like MJ had in the second half of his career, otherwise you're going to end up being super CJ watson or something.
