There are things to like about Samardzija from the modern perspective. Low mileage on his arm. Good stuff. No injury history. I find it somewhat odd that so many people argue with me so vociferously about how meaningless W/L record is, when W/L record is really the only knock against Samardzija. If you're looking at things that are now considered under the pitcher's "control", Samardzija has more than decent numbers. His K/9 is in the top 30 of active guys. His K/BB ratio is in the top 30. His HR/9 is in the top 50. It really shouldn't be that one bludgeons me like I'm some kind of fossil for believing in the value of W/L record and then turns around and uses it to illustrate how shitty Jeff Samardzija is.

He sure does seem to be susceptible to the big inning, though.

To get the draft pick.

How high of a pick can that be? He sucks.

That doesn't come into play.

That's cool, I guess. Damn, and people say NBA players are overpaid.

He's going back to the Cubs.

I have no idea why the Cubs would want to pay him that much.

If Coop couldn't fix him, he's unfixable.

Who wrote that? ERA don't lie, he's never been good and never will be.

The rumors are floating that Coop broke him.. tinkered with his mechanics and made him change his pitch mix to The Coop way... Coop had him cut down on the fourseamer and drastically cut down on his sinker while raising his sliders and almost doubling his cutter..... the result was obvious.

This couldn't be more wrong. Coop is the best pitching coach in the business.

Rongey putting the brag out there that "he called it"...Is anyone surprised he didnt take the offer?

The guy has spent his whole career focused on becoming a free agent and seeing what the market will pay him. Sure, I understand the theory of having a better year then going into FA, but the time has come for him to see his worth finally, he wasnt going to skip it.

Shark still lives in the city and loves it there. One of my Sons who lives in the city has run info Jeff a few times. Lets just say that Shark did not enjoy his year with Coop and the Sox.

he lives in Scottsdale. While he rented in Chicago, he did live on Southport. Bought a place very early in his career, I think right out of ND. Sold it when he was traded.

Someone will cough up 4 years at 15M+ for him. If he really wants to stay in Chicago and is open to a 1 year deal, then he'd be an option for the Cubs but I would not go 4 years for him thus I think he signs in SF or with the Yankees or elsewhere.

I'd be surprised if he ended up back with the Cubs. He hasn't been shy about wanting to get the possible deal in free agency, and he's there now. Although he's coming off a bad year, and a 1 year deal could help him get back some money he made have lost, there is still going to be a strong market for him and a lot of teams love his mentality and think this year was a fluke. I think he gets 4 or 5 years at 16-18 a season, and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to the higher end.

I think that's about what he will get, 4 years 60ish mill from San Diego or Zona.

Yeah, but isn't the pick they get more valuable than any of them?

Not in my opinion... Not impossible to hit a home run @ 40 something pick ..not likely.. Probably draft a guy just like Semien or Phegley just 4 years away from what those guys are right now.

You make it seem like compensatory picks are sure things.

They aren't, but I doubt either of those players were the long term answers either.
