I'm unsure as to how much of the success is because of John Fox, and how much is because it's anybody but Marc Trestman. I mean, sure, there's a history that suggests Fox has great success early on and thus the improvement can logically be ascribed to him doing what he does, but still we're coming out from under the most dysfunctional team in the organization two years ago followed up by something even more appalling last year.

soooooooooooo yeah, i think the bears have a run of very winnable games and if the team keeps coming together and improving on the back of ACTUAL QUALITY COACHING (notice how almost every game lately begins with the bears having their asses handed to them on defense, but then once fangio-n-friends figure out how the opponents are attacking the bears they'll adjust to it and by the second half it'll be all sorted out and then if the bears have a deficit to erase it's no problem cuz the cardiac bears specialize in close last second / OT finishes (SEE: THE LAST 5 GAMES)

offensively speaking, they seem to do well with their scripted plays and then they get found out and it takes them a quarter or two to adjust back, but then when that 4th quarter rolls around both the offense and defense are going at high levels and the bears have what it takes to be at least a 7-9 to 9-7 football team.... seeing as they COULD feasibly be sitting at 6-3 right now it is conceivable that they coulda finished 5-2 or 4-3 and that'd result in 11-5/10-6, and then the playoffs are a total crapshoot where if you become hawk's favorite sandwich (the hot ballclub) then anything's possible.... ask your 2x champion NY football giants.

sooooooo yeah sheeeeeeeeeeeeeit, strained-n-elongated opening sentences/phrases aside, it's really nice to see a competent coaching staff in town that's able to take the players who are on the roster and not just coach them up to max out their potential, but also to call plays and set the team up to take advantage of the personnel they have to do whatever they gotta do to keep the team in every game they play (remember that one defensive formation with 3 rushers and everyone else standing 15-20yds back at the goal line? things like that are the kind of stuff you'd never see in a mel tucker or even a lovie smith defense cuz the former was just a total fucking moron and the latter was too proud and "that's not how we play defense" to ever get too far away from his beloved tampa-2 defense.

personally, i'd love to see what gase and cutler can accomplish in year 2 with an improving defense (just imagine if they could get turnovers, especially INTs) and mroe weapons like the high-concept of kevin white and/or more cromulent FA additions like bennett or royal alongside more 1st-3rd round draft picks cuz i'm going to just pray out loud that pace won't bus in more crocked first rounders for at least 2-3 more years.... if he can hit on those while keeping positive coaching here, yeah dude, i think cutler has shown us that he deserves at least one more year to earn his contract b4 we ship him out in favor of starting with the next cycle of 23 bears quarterbacks in the next 15-19 years or whatever.

TLDR = i love having legit NFL coaches here with the bears. the results are plain as day to see on the field.... and look at what happens when you give jay cutler some actual direction as opposed to martz (remember he had to ship off g-reg olsen just to show jay who the alpha dog was) and tice (duh) and then of course trestman and his desire to lock quarterbacks in a remote cabin in the woods on a stormy night so he can look into their eyes and gaze upon their soul and see if they're a guy that trestman can win football games with. i assume if that answer is yes that's when trestman can do his bonding ritual to give him a permanent connection with the QB going forward cuz holy shit trestman is a sociopath who can't make any friends and consequently coaching hires (see: TUCKER, MEL)

fox had the rep as a great monday-saturday coach but on sundays some of his conservatism would blow you games. you can argue that we saw that against detoit when we had a chance to kill the clock and prevent their comeback and it was basically get a first down or two and win the game... so you run, you run, and you have 3rd and 6 to go and ice the game.... what do you do?

you cutlerproof the fuck out of the offense and go off tackle left and give detroit the ball with enough time to march down the field and score, botch the time management and dont save yourself up to an additional minute of time to go for the game-tying FG, and then you get bailed the fuck out by the dumbass lions who give you 2 PIs while you're driving down 2/3 of the field in 20-30secs to get that game tying FG....... before calling a bunch of safe plays in overtime that leads to a DET victory!

but hey cutler didnt throw a killer INT so you go foxxy boy!

all that said, whether it's simply relative perspective from anyone-but-trestman/tucker or whether it's legit NFL-quality coaching (i personally think it's both)---it's plainly obvious to see that this team is properly coached and it's getting better and better. it's cool to see kids like langford show up and make an impact (seriously, RBs can have breakaway speed? i didnt know that was possible!) and this defense adapts and locks down and gives the offense a chance to go out and right the wrongs of the first half, or hell maybe thery turnjed a corner today in that they overcame the deficit early and were able to get/hold/build a lead and give us our first boring 2nd half in the last 2 months!

and hey dont look now but i dont hear bernstein running cutler out of town, so maybe the bears havent issued the edict for dan to give him the marshall treatment to prep the fans for an imminent departure. #OneMoreYear #JayIsOurQuarterback aka #YouCouldDoAHellOfALotWorseThanCutler

Hopefully, this doesn't cloud their judgement long term and they draft a QB in the first round. Something tells me they are going to try and convince themselves that they can get the next Wilson in the third or fourth round.

I'm with you though. Keep Cutler for another 2 seasons but if the Bears are picking outside the top 10 and Jared Goff (or whoever) falls to them I'd hope they pull the trigger.
