French President Francois Hollande today promised that “France will remain a country of freedom,” defending his decision to honor a commitment to accept migrants and refugees despite Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.

“Life should resume fully,” Hollande told a gathering of the country’s mayors, who gave him a standing ovation. “What would France be without its museums, without its terraces, its concerts, its sports competitions?

“France should remain as it is. Our duty is to carry on our lives.”

In the same spirit, he added, “30,000 refugees will be welcomed over the next two years. Our country has the duty to respect this commitment,” explaining that they will undergo vigorous security checks.

Hollande noted that “some people say the tragic events of the last few days have sown doubts in their minds,” but called it a “humanitarian duty” to help those people … but one that will go hand in hand with “our duty to protect our people.”

“We have to reinforce our borders while remaining true to our values,” he said.

Fuck France. They've allowed violent antisemitism to flourish unchecked for several years there and all they did was give those terrorists the confidence and freedom to do whatever they wanted, which they did this past week with the attacks. But, now that the attacks are on the gen pop and not just Jews they are all pissed off.

Jews that have been fleeing the country for a decade because they aren't safe and no one in France seems to give a crap? Where was all the French support for those people? Name another modern major country where a religious group is so persecuted that its no longer safe for their people to live there..and the government and populace don't care or do anything to stop the persecution?

I have no clue what place you went to mentally to get that from what I wrote.

Again, you seem incapable of looking at violent acts other than those done to Jewish people. If a country deserves to be attacked by terrorists because some of the population commits bigoted acts of violence, and the government has done little to prevent that, then a whole lot of modern countries deserve to be attacked by terrorists. Again, this is using your "logic".

I was unaware of this so I did a little looking. Looks like there are some anti-semetic views there, especially amongst the older generations, but I'm not sure about any actual violent acts. Also there are very few Jews there, especially compared to France. Probably not that many muslims either, unlike France. Seems like the bigotry towards Jews there has a lot to do with lack of exposure to them as opposed to France.
