he lives in Scottsdale. While he rented in Chicago, he did live on Southport. Bought a place very early in his career, I think right out of ND. Sold it when he was traded.

Well, he's been in the city since the baseball season ended and was still here last week.

somebody was saying they'd likely get a pick in the high 20s as compensation. I have no idea how these things work anymore. So if we (sox) signed a QO free agent (Upton for example), they would lose that pick.

By finishing in the bottom 10 the Sox cannot l;oose their first round pick ..... just like last year...if they sign 1 QFA they will loose their second round pick ...just like last year..if they sign 2 QFA they would loose their third round pick ...again just like last year...

Any of the the other 20 teams will loose their first round pick if they sign a QFA... for a team like the Cubs that would have a smaller impact as they currently have the 28th pick in the first round..so if they sign one QFA they would only fall a few spots. They will also get a compesatory pick if Fowler signs somewhere else.

The teams that will NOT loose a pick are:

1. Phillies (63-99, .389)
2. Reds (64-98, .395)
3. Braves (67-95, .414)
4. Rockies (68-94, .420)
5. Brewers (68-94, .420)
6. Athletics (68-94, .420)
7. Marlins (71-91, .438)
8. Padres (74-88, .457)
9. Tigers (74-87, .460)
10. White Sox (76-86, .469)

Until ALL the QFA are signed you cannot determine where the compensatory picks would start but it will be after ALL the other 20 teams who do not sign a QFA

11. Mariners (76-86, .469)
12. Red Sox (78-84, .481)
13. D-backs (79-83, .488)
14. Rays (80-82, .494)
15. Orioles (81-81, .500)
16. Indians (81-80, .503)
17. Twins (83-79, .512)
18. Nationals (83-79, .512)
19. Giants (84-78, .519)
20. Angels (85-77, .525)
21. Astros (86-76, .531)
22. Yankees (87-75, .537)
23. Rangers (88-74, .543)
24. Mets (90-72, .556)
25. Dodgers (92-70, .568)
26. Blue Jays (93-69, .574)
27. Royals (95-67, .586)
28. Cubs (97-65, .599)
29. Pirates (98-64, .605)
30. Cardinals (100-62, .617)

right now the Sox would get pick 33 see below ...the team that looses a player gets that pick but it will move up based on the team that losses a pick..... for example if the Cubs sign Shark the Cubs would loose pick 28...then the Sox would move up one spot to 32...and so on

Compensatory round
31. Ian Kennedy, Padres
32. Justin Upton, Padres
33. Jeff Samardzija, White Sox
34. Hisashi Iwakuma, Mariners
35. Wei-Yin Chen, Orioles
36. Chris Davis, Orioles
37. Ian Desmond, Nationals
38. Jordan Zimmermann, Nationals
39. Yovani Gallardo, Rangers
40. Daniel Murphy, Mets
41. Zack Greinke, Dodgers
42. Howie Kendrick, Dodgers
43. Alex Gordon, Royals
44. Dexter Fowler, Cubs
45. Jason Heyward, Cardinals
46. John Lackey, Cardinals

Hope this helps.

Some seem to be confused about Phegley and Semien: Phegley was a backup for Oakland last year behind Vogt. This would seem to be made clear to anyone who cared to look by the 73 games he appeared in last year.

Marcus Semien had 35 errors as a second baseman. I believe he was statistically the worst regular starting fielder in the league last year.

I don't know what the compensatory pick will look like. I'm comfortable losing both of those players.

Based on Fangraphs WAR based on hitting

Phegley 1.8
Semien 1.7

Only Sox players that were higher

Eaton 3.6
Abreu 3.0

All Sox catchers 1.3
All Sox 2B -1.3 (the best was Sanchez -0.2)

And don't forget Chris Bassitt and his 1.4 pitching WAR which would be 7th best on Sox

And then there is Rangel Ravalo who is only 23 and last year was the A's 10th best prospect. He is in theVenezuelan Winter League playing for Cardenales de Lara and has these numbers 29-for-63, 5 HR, 5 2B, 23 BB, 9 Ks, 1.371 OPS

so it wasn't just two guys it was four.

The Sox were horrible at hitting, particularly so at the catching position. Comparing these two to bottom 14 players in a horrible lineup doesn't concern me. You distance yourself from the fielding with Semien, and for good reason.

ONLY 23 (24 early next season) and 10th best in an organization...those numbers aren't overly favorable to your position but your the minor league guy so I'm sure you're not trying to bs me.

I'm as comfortable today with losing those players as I was at the time of the trade.

At this point so would I but you have to wonder what the Sox could have gotten if they moved him before the deadline.

Not an impact prospect. This pick the White Sox are getting could be between picks 28-33. That has value, and potential. If you're going to rebuild...I believe a solid course of action is acquiring has many chips in the talent lottery as possible. That is usually done with picks / international signings.

World Series would be nice, but this is more of a sure thing.

Would you take a million dollars today or a 10% chance at 10 million dollars tomorrow?

Yeah, he would..but I don't think his ego would low it..there is more money in being a shitty 4th starter.

The thing about Shark is that he is not a consistent suck throughout the year. He will give you games that he wins on his own. I expect him to bounce back from last year with a great middle of the season but a fade at the end.

Its a completely different situation.

BTW, Eckersley's ERA in the 1st inning was 5.06 in his last year as a starter

I don't get the interest in Shark. He's a flat out awful pitcher. Even when he does good it seems more like an off day for the other team than Shark having good stuff. He's bad.

Closers typically pitch in the 9th.
