I've noticed over the year that the non-chosen people tend to start Thanksgiving very early compared to Jews. We've always started our T-giving at 4 or 5 and go till midnight or so. It seems like all the Goys start as early as 11 or something obscene like that. I know a lot of other Jews that also go for late start times so I was curious if there really is a cultural difference or if its just a coincidence.

So when do you guys start your T-giving?

Please specify if you are Jewish or not by displaying a yellow star of David emoji on all your posts from now on.

My family always started around 3 or 4...right around kickoff for the Dallas game.

My in-laws have dinner around 1...which basically sucks.

We usually eat around 3 or 4, but get togethere starting around 1 or so. Visit and such before dinner, and we're usually home somewhat early as most of us have to work the following day.

We have Thanksgiving at our house every year, and we eat dinner between 5:30-6:00.

I think a lot of it depends on if you have to go to 2 houses also, as I was growing up I always thought we ate around mid-day.

3 was always the start time in my family.

My MIL starts about 6 with the meal ending sometime around 9 because she passively aggressively tries to keep everybody there as late as possible because they have a government workers mentality about the next day

"Goys and Jews" was a huge hit on Broadway.

We get together any time after noon. Eat at 2. Watch football and sleep until around 6:30. Turkey sammiches at 7 followed by game playing until we're sick of it.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think your spread also includes mac & cheese and greens.

I will be teeing off around 11am at a golf course in California. Might have a turkey club at the turn.

This should probably go in the "Common Knowledge You Never Knew" section, but we added our first brother to the family last year and that was when I found out that mac & cheese was a traditional Thanksgiving food for some.

No Bears Chat either Thursday...you will need to listen to your mother in law who knows nothing about Football scream "Oh gosh, look at that" anytime a pass is thrown.

that "A Bisel K'vetsh a Broch!" number really stays in your head.

i have never understood the "eat before 3p" mentality on thanksgiving. i think we're doing like 5-5:30pm. you know, dinner time.

She is one of the "fans" that is so often used to illustrate how much more popular football is than baseball.

All those guys that made all the kids shows back in our day were heavy pot smokers.

Image

Someone here played a clip of Wizzo and Cookie, when Wizzo appeared in a puff of smoke....during which they talked about "Did you buzz me cookie?",,,Cookie replied I dont know if I buzzed you, but I am sure catching one....Hey!!!!!!!!!!

I'd also never really seen a non-sweet potato pie on the table until about 10-15 years ago. Even then, I've never seen an older relative eat one, unless they brought it themselves. I can't recall even seeing a pumpkin pie, although I'm sure that over nearly five decades there has been one or two.

- Pumpkin pie without Cool hWhip is borderline poop.
- Mashed potatoes are redundant and just in the way what with stuffing and Rhodes rolls available.
- Stuffing should be simple, not some complex "Look at me, I should be on Food Network" bullshit.
- Gravy makes things better, period ... it should be carefully meted out so as to not run out of it before leftovers are finished or discarded to the wolves.
- Here's a tip - bring a few of your own pieces of Tupperware (or whatever) to take home leftovers you may want - that way, you don't have to worry about giving the dishes back (aka you don't have to see / talk to those people again until Christmas).
