I'd love to stay up and watch but I just can't. I hate these 9 o'clock starts.

So good to have Keith back out there.

Daley has looked pretty good. Maybe he is finding his role.

Nothing like the threat of being traded to Ottawa to light a fire under your ass. He has had a nice first 2 periods tonight. Too bad they have to have a long kill to start the 3rd because of a damn TMMOI penalty.

Hey, I went to a Rockford IceHogs game tonight. They beat San Antonio (Avs affiliate) 3-2 in overtime on a 4-on-3 goal from Gustafsson. Not so much a prospect night as it was a 2011 Blackhawks night: Jeremy Morin had a goal! Jake Dowell had a 2-5-10! Bryan Bickell did stuff! Jack Skille was a wrong answer to a trivia question (the right answer was Morin)! I had seats on the shoot-twice blue line, so go figure all five goals were scored in the defend-twice end (which doesn't even have seats, just restaurants). Light crowd on a weeknight; the upper deck on the penalty-box side was all but empty and the upper-deck end was emptier still. Most importantly, I finally got my Beef-a-Roo t-shirt with the retro logo.

Only Pokka, Gustafsson, Hinostroza, and Morin really stood out to me, and Morin has probably topped out at "AHL superstar" at this point. Hinostroza is fast and looked better than his peers, but he looked underwhelming at the NHL level. Truth be told, I didn't know who the hell a lot of these guys were: I believe Cumiskey, Ross, Baun, and McNeill were all scratches.

As always, I recommend an IceHogs game or two every year. It's an intimate setting with affordable prices, if "intimate" and "Rockford" together doesn't make you wince.

Great game played by the Hawks tonight. One of their best of the year against the hottest team in the league. This team is starting to gel & come together.

It was an excellent showing. Depth forwards finally showed up. I don't know why Fels/McClure are so down on Tanner Kero. I think he's a solid bottom-six center. He's the Trevor van Riemsdyk of centers, essentially. I suppose the dilemma is that he makes a great #4C but an insufficient #3C, with Kruger having locked down #4C.

Hawks gotta rattle off a string of wins coming up here and distinguish themselves from the pack. Right now it's Dallas at the top, Edmonton at the bottom, and everybody else.

Dallas appears to be having a Blues like regular season and then I expect to see them collapse in the playoffs.

I don't think it's Blues-like. The Blues have had strong regular seasons built around team defense and goaltending. The Stars are mediocre defensively and in goal but have Benn, Seguin, Sharp, Spezza, and Klingberg slaying everyone. The Stars are all about extreme top-heaviness at the expense of everything else. Oddly enough, the Blues would seem like they'd be much more the "built for the playoffs" team of the two, given all the platitudes about needing depth to win, but as we've seen, the Blues suck in the playoffs, thus shifting the platitudes from "you can't win without depth!" to "you can't win without game-changing talent!" It's like rest versus rust, we decide as we go. Shame about Dallas, it'd be a fun team to like if Stars fans weren't such pretentious twats.

Incidentally, the Rockford faithful cheered Dowell's fight louder than Morin's goal. Send Mashinter back down so these rubes can be happy and send up a player with talent.

Either way I fully expect to see Dallas fall apart in the playoffs.

I won't go as far as completely fall apart, but Lehtonen and Niemi aren't combining for 16 playoff wins.

Here you go, Tim Cowlishaw:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas ... -final.ece

Quote:
Buy or sell: Stars go to the Stanley Cup Final.

Sell. But I would sell if you said any team -- Rangers, Canadiens, Kings. The playoffs are tough, you have to win three series. I'll buy the Stars winning a series for the first time since 2008, how about that?

Do you think Seguin and Benn can keep up this points streak into division play? That's where the Stars were questionable last year. couldn't get those division wins.

Might slow down some against superior competition, but they will both be top 10 scorers, probably top 5.

First one is kind of a cop-out -- dude, somebody has to get to the Final -- but interesting point about Central teams shutting the Stars down. We won't see them till December 22nd, then not again till twice in less than a week in early February, then two more in March. Interesting, interesting.
