I would give out some bonuses trying to keep them here, would also give Fox an option to stay or let him tell young adam, if and when he can have HC job,

Fox comes off poorly in interviews. But the entire staff is getting this team (devoid of NFL quality talent) to play competitively. The only area of serious concern is the special teams.

Well a promotion to Asst. Head Coach probably keeps one of Fangio or Gase. I would use it on Gase, who is younger and seems like the larger flight risk. Maybe telling Gase he is the hier apparent when Fox retires, for a team and organization that he's at least familiar with, keeps him from taking a risk with an unknown.

Fangio has had multiple opportunities from the turnaround he managed in SF to enter the fray for a HC job and hasn't seemed interested. He's also 57, which shrinks the pool of franchises who will be interested. Still, it won't be easy to keep both him and Gase with only one real promotion to hand out and cheap McCaskey bullshit.

None of these guys signed one year deals. Unless they have some opt-out clause in their contracts, don't they have to stay with the Bears a couple more years?

I don't know if a lateral move is allowed but if they were offered a head- coaching spot they could leave even if under contract.

Its a reach but they could make one associate head coach-defense and the other assistant head coach-offense or some crap.

He's done more with less than Gase. Both have done a good job tho.

Gase would be stupid to stick around with the Bears as Asst Head Coach in waiting if he was in offered a HC job somewhere else, that's pie in the sky thinking. Asst head coach to keep Fangio as DC seems reasonable to keep him from going to better team just as DC though

Fangio and Gase can only leave the Bears if they take HC jobs (or are fired, they aren't getting fired). The more I read about Fangio the more convinced I am he'll be the Bears DC for a long time.

Yeah, Fangio's HC ship has probably sailed, if he ever even had one.

Fangio wanted the Niners HC job, but Baalke/York were choosing between Gase and Tomsula. Gase wanted Fangio as DC and the 49ers refused. They wanted Fangio as LB coach. Gase said fuck it and rejoined Fox in Chicago and Fangio followed him.

There's some connection between Gase and Fangio that isn't apparent from their resumes (they've never been on the same staff). Maybe Gase is just an admirer and took the 49ers refusal to keep Fangio as a sign of that franchises' disfunction. But even then, it was Fangio or bust for him when it came to San Francisco. It kind of makes you wonder since Fangio just happened to come to Chicago. Doubt it's coincidence.

Maybe the plan is Fox moves into the FO after this season and Gase takes the reigns as HC. Fangio as Asst HC/DC.

Fox has a 4 year deal. He ain't moving to the FO this soon.

Keep Fangio for sure and Gase seems like a goner unless he waits for the right job but if team X offers him 20M+, hard to turn that down...

He's been in the NFL 29 years and never sniffed a HC job. The 49ers hired his DL coach, fucking Jim Tomusula, over him for HC.

They don't have to allow them to interview with other teams.

Fangio was the best move made this off-season, and what he's doing with the Bears defense this season is flat out amazing work. Give Pace a lot of credit too for bringing in Fox (a professional coach makes a big difference and has brought in excellent coordinators) and the draft class that has so far, even without Kevin White, has produced 3-4 starters this year. Fangio is doing this with a patchwork defense. Now, with a year of evaluating the defense, Fangio/Fox know where they need to continue building and another draft class to add additional talent to the defensive side of the ball.

The Bears organization will not prevent anyone on the staff from pursuing a head coaching job, should there be interest.

The only reason Gase would stick around, and turn down a head coaching opportunity, would be in the hope of a more desirable one opening the following season. That's a huge risk to take. It only takes one season for your stock to plummet quickly in the NFL.

I'm not sure the reasoning, but Fangio seems to be locked in a defensive coordinator.

The Bears should send Jed York a pajama gram.

Dumbest MF'er in the sport handed the Bears an excellent staff.

To somehow screw up having Gase and Fangio laid out on a silver platter is a Bears-worthy accomplishment. Pretty unbelievable that of all the teams to capitalize on that, it was the Bears.

I don't think money is what keeps Gase in town either. Has to be a job, or at least (concrete) promise of one.
