So, yet again, Southwest has this steak house listed as one the best I'm Chicago... it's in the magazine that is right behind the saftey pamohelet. Every time it's there, always. Like there isn't a better place? Who knows rates this stuff? What are the metrics, are computers involved?

What gives? And where the dick is Skyamall?

It doesn't taste very good at first blush, but its wins above replacement steakhouse are impressive.

I like the place downtown, as long as somebody else is paying.

It's for shifty-eyed suburbanites in mock turtlenecks looking for something they can tell other shifty-eyed suburbanites is an "authentic city experience" but is just dumb.

Dan's got a lotta head but very little face. Also, it seems very odd that the URBANE Dan Bernstein would recommend something in fucking River North. So bougie!

Now that I think about it, I haven't been to Manny's (also on that show) in years. Is it still any good?

This must be like ten years old. Dan's got zeal-of-the-convert hate against fat people.

What a tool. I love when he says something to the effect, "Well, some people might go there for the Italian dishes. I don't. I always go for steak." Ya think there might be SOME who go for the Italian food? Good call, douche.

Who was the host? I didn't watch back then.

Amanda Puck (who is Wolfgang Puck's former sister-in-law.) was the original host for two seasons starting in 2001.

So this has to be from 2001 or 2002 before DB learned the value of internet wine.

When I have colleagues in from Germany, or customers, and they want steak in the city, I tell them if they want an old school traditional steak joint, we'll go to G&G. If they prefer a new shiny experience we'll go to Gibsons, Mortons, etc...
My favorite is still The Chop House.

Agree on Chop house. Good vibe for someone who wants to feel like they are at a STEAK HOUSE via Old School. GG steaks are really good, great broc raab too.

Better TALENT at HUGOs or CUT

Not as good as it used to be, but I still like going for breakfast every once in a while (good corned beef hash, $5 w/o eggs) on a Saturday because you get the remnants of various clusters of city workers meeting to bullshit and tell stories. And their rectangular tables for four have solid chairs and are a good place to work for a couple of hours while the immigrant ladies bring you more coffee.

Mannys is one of the last Chicago places left that people from all parts of the city come to eat and BS. Might even say, if you havent gone for a samwich, gonna need to revoke your chicago card,

I know they have a lot of great things at the places listed above but I love the famous Garbage Salad at G & G.

The only thing that makes Dan Bernstein Urbanized is his mailing address.

Even then, he was praising the restaurant for not pandering to Chicago stereotypes.

Remember, Dan is urbane, not urban. Urban doesn't encapsulate his refined manner.
