Finished the 10K in 1:04:50. I was very disappointed in my performance. I had to stop a handful of times to get my bearings as I was
lightheaded and exhausted. The two previous 10K's I had done 4-5 years ago I broke an hour and thought I could do it again but not
having run anything more than a 5K for 4 years was a huge mistake. I knew this and went though with the race anyway. My legs finally
don't hurt today so I will get back to it. 32:58 to win the race was a pretty good time I thought. Perfect day to run. It was mild and overcast,
very little wind and didn't start raining until 30 minutes after I was done.

i agree with T-Bone, runningintheusa is the place to go.

good job on the 10k t-bone. 10k is not easy if you haven't prepared for it, so good for you on getting it done. i did a 5k thanksgiving morning but i wasn't really into it, i had too much going on that day and racing that morning felt rushed and hurried. i didn't get close to PR time but like t-bone said the weather was good for running and it was over before the rain. i did a hair over 25 minutes, which, believe it or not, was good for 2nd place of 15 in age group (only about 250 people and not very competitive).

no races again until february, so this weekend i started escalating the training and hope to put in a ton of miles over the winter. the weekend weather was very favorable for running, i hope it stays like this for a while.

Finished my 5K this morning. Time was 36:21, which was better than my practice runs. So I was happy with that and I did not walk at all. Got 3rd place in my age group, but I think that was a statement about the lack of guys in my age group :lol:

Ripped off 7 miles last night in the dark mist. Ran past a skunk and we both scared each other. Luckily Pepé Le Pew kept his sprayer holstered or I would've been toast.

Real shit effort. Early November I spun a 56 minute loop but last night felt real sluggish and only finished 1:05.

The warm weather has been great for running outside. Though, I wish the sun didn't set at 4:30 (yes, being greedy there).

Been jogging 2.5 miles in the evening with my dog. Been working on keeping a consistent and steady pace but not setting the world on fire.
Agreed that the weather has been perfect for shorts and a sweatshirt. Wish I would have started doing this months ago. I think I finally
told myself that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the outside like this much longer and have been taking as much in as possible.

the last 2 weeks have been perfect for running for me. i have been getting in a lot of miles and this past saturday i knocked out 15 miles in 2 hours 26 min which is not terribly fast but it felt great. i definitely have my eyes on a full marathon in 2016, just not sure if it will be late spring or the fall. no races planned until early february, so this will be a good couple months straight of good miles and training. looking forward to a good run tonight.

I think I just convinced myself to run Chicago Marathon again in 2016. Ran it in 2013, as my first ever organized raced, and finished in 4:34.

I think my goal is going to be to shave 20-25 minutes off that.

Yes they could. If you can do 6 miles at once (you already have) and 20 in a week then assuming you train correctly (18 week program) you can complete a marathon. But good first step might be to train for and complete a half-marathon.

i don't have near the experience of "a retard" and am certainly not any kind of a running expert, but i think it is important to take your time and build up a strong base of miles before stretching out the long runs too far. i have been running 5 days a week solid for just under 2.5 years and am just getting to the point where i feel like i can go out and even entertain the thought of training for a marathon. not saying others couldn't do it quicker, but i have always been afraid of hurting myself but pushing too far too fast. i have a bad habit of running too fast when training and have to slow myself down quite often. i have one speed workout a week where i really go hard, but other than that i typically run my long runs slow and my other runs somewhere in between, mixing in hills one or 2 days a week.

Ran off a treadmill for 7 miles and it was a slog. A lot easier to keep pace on a machine but it was so booooooorrrrrriiiinnnnnggggggg.

Kids were busy with their presents, wife was taking a nap, so I decided to go up to a local park for a 3 mile jog. Being Christmas day I did not expect to see anyone else. About half way through I came across a lady power walking with cell phone and mace in one hand and a cigarette in the other :lol: I scared her pretty good as I don't think she was expecting anyone else either. I guess I am lucky I did not get maced.

Weird question here: can you elaborate on your pain a bit? I ran the same amount a few weeks ago and noticed some discomfort in my knee toward the end. Tried running again the next day and the discomfort reappeared quickly. Ever since then I've been taking it easy but whenever I try to run the discomfort comes back. I'm scheduling something with an orthopaedic doctor to check things out, but thought I would mention this here to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

This particular problem I am sure is common "runner's knee." Pain kind of radiating around the knee cap region. I've battled this before.

Pretty sure Hatchetman diagnosed you vegan. I get bouts of runner's knee flaring up here and there.

You need to strengthen your quads and and stretch your hammys.

I have both shit quad strength and tight hammys. You can easily tell if you have tight hamstring by doing a squat side-view in a mirror. If your ass/lower back rounds at the end of the squat even though you're keeping your back straight it's called a "butt wink" and signals you have tight hamstrings.

I'm just too lazy to put the effort in to fix it. One of these days I'll get around to it...
