Jack Eichel gets all the attention with Buffalo's rebuild, but get a load of Rasmus Ristolainen at defense. 24 points in 33 games with zero penalty minutes. Dude's a surgeon.

The Sabres aren't good but they're orders of magnitude better than they were a year ago. Ryan O'Reilly always gave us trouble in Denver and will probably do so again today. Hawks should still win this and three of the next four.

The Sabres play a lot of weekend matinees, presumably so that people from outside the core metropolitan area can make a day trip out of a game and be back home in Binghamton or Syracuse or Utica or wherever-the-fuck-else Sabres fans live before like 1 in the morning. Remember that Buffalo proper is actually quite small and the team relies on picking up the spare with all the other medium/small cities in Western/Upstate New York. They actually have some of the best RSN ratings in the league, even when the team was in the depths of hell the last two years.

A reunion of the the two guys who led Finland to a World Juniors Gold medal a few years ago. If you get a chance check out Risto's gold medal winning goal on youtube, its a thing of beauty.

Rasmussen might well be a keeper. Hell of a goal earlier, just carried it right in.

He's been great as the #3c, but he'd be cooler if his name was Rasmus Rasmussen.

Can't argue that.

Buffalo's flying in this second period.

Good first, awful second. Gotta pull this one out; I don't want to have to look back on the points we couldn't get from the Buffalo Sabres.

This was scheduled so the Hawks have to fly out of Buffalo this afternoon. Keep the women safe.

Is Kane getting booed when he touches the puck? Or do they still regard him as their favorite son and cheer him.

Regulation loss to Buffalo incoming. Threw another game away. It's not January yet, Blackhawks, you have to give a fuck for another week and a half.

Gift from God getting a 5-on-3 and the Sabres missing an empty-netter by inches.

With the 5 on 3, wasn't it stupid for Q to pull the goalie? I mean he did it with over a minute to go. Worked out. Still probably not the right move, right?

How rare is that, by the way? To score on a 6 on 3. Or to even be on a 6 on 3.

Well, they were booing Kane pretty hard in the shoot out. I guess Bernstien was wrong. Buffalo people are not fan boys and pro rape.

There's a school of thought that having that many bodies on the ice nullifies the evident advantage of the 2:1 ratio, but they were down a goal and needed the points, might as well try.

Surprised that Kane got booed at home the way he did. This could be enough material for another Tim Baffoe column.

7/11 at the dot for Danault, which is encouraging. He was on the ice for that wonky Franson goal but what are you gonna do.

That was a really bad game. I'm not sure it was the right choice to use Crawford for the road/weaker half of the back-to-back. The dilemma was whether it would better shelter Darling to start him against the inferior team or start him at home, and they went with home. Let's see how it works out.

Three points for Benn tonight, two for Seguin. Kane needs to step it up against the Sharkies.
