Jack Eichel gets all the attention with Buffalo's rebuild, but get a load of Rasmus Ristolainen at defense. 24 points in 33 games with zero penalty minutes. Dude's a surgeon.

The Sabres aren't good but they're orders of magnitude better than they were a year ago. Ryan O'Reilly always gave us trouble in Denver and will probably do so again today. Hawks should still win this and three of the next four.

The Sabres play a lot of weekend matinees, presumably so that people from outside the core metropolitan area can make a day trip out of a game and be back home in Binghamton or Syracuse or Utica or wherever-the-fuck-else Sabres fans live before like 1 in the morning. Remember that Buffalo proper is actually quite small and the team relies on picking up the spare with all the other medium/small cities in Western/Upstate New York. They actually have some of the best RSN ratings in the league, even when the team was in the depths of hell the last two years.

There's a school of thought that having that many bodies on the ice nullifies the evident advantage of the 2:1 ratio, but they were down a goal and needed the points, might as well try.

7/11 at the dot for Danault, which is encouraging. He was on the ice for that wonky Franson goal but what are you gonna do.

That was a really bad game. I'm not sure it was the right choice to use Crawford for the road/weaker half of the back-to-back. The dilemma was whether it would better shelter Darling to start him against the inferior team or start him at home, and they went with home. Let's see how it works out.
