I usually just get cheese and sausage. On Saturday, I added bacon. Normally, bacon makes everything better. Not in this case. The grease of the bacon was much more noticeable than that of the sausage, and it made the crust not as crispy. Still tasted good, but I shan't get bacon again.

You ever try Kaisers in Gurnee? They make the best pie in the far north burbs in my opinion. There is one in Kenosha now as well and does very well. Thin crust is probably their best style.

yes...I've done Kaisers. Good pizza, but there are better options in Lake Co. In no particular order:

Wayne's - Grayslake
Antioch Pizza
italian Ovens - Round Lake Beach
Tammy's Pizza - Spring Grove
RJ's - Lindenhurst. They can be inconsistent in quality, but when it's good it's really good.
I've yet to try it, but I heard Fox Hole in McHenry is really good.

While I dont let YELP reviews make a final determination for me on any place, when I read the most recent reviews and they are almost all negative. I turn away and go elsewhere.

I've been to Wayne's and Italian Ovens but it has been a long time. Fox Hole was ok on a half handed recommendation from Darkside.
Been to RJ's as well, if they are inconsistent they shouldn't make the list. Kaisers is good every time.

Ahh yes, Quonset. We went there five years ago when my stepbrother was here for a Naval ceremony. We decided to pick up some pizzas to go and head back to the hotel, since the place was packed. We're waiting to place our order, and the guy in front of us is getting angrier and angrier by the minute. Apparently he had been waiting a few minutes to pick up his, but no one from Quonset came over to check on him. He got so pissed he ends up just screaming a bunch and storming out. Without his pizzas. We step up to order, and the worker says the guy paid for his pizzas, so they're ours for free if we want 'em. Got his ham and pineapple, and pepperoni. both large thin crust. Delicious.

Agreed, Rosati's is hit or miss. The one by me sucks. The one over by Favrefan's neck of the woods is very good, but I'm also usually drunk and high from FF's secondhand smoke when we get it.

Rosati's problem as far as I remember is that they are independent franchises. Your quality depends on the operator and if Rosati's Inc polices them or not. I had a great one by me when I lived in Tinley Park.

Rosati's in Woodridge recently changed ownership. PittMike, the same guys who owned Woodridge were the same guys who opened Tinley Park. They didn't keep it very long, though.

The first time I went back after the new owners took over, I noticed they were all wearing Rosati's baseball hats and T-shirts. I asked if it was under new management, as I didn't see either of the old owners. The new guy in charge immediately started bad mouthing the old ownership. Didn't care for that, so I haven't been back. Besides, Lucano's is better, and it's closer to home. RIP, Woodridge Rosati's. I was looking for a reason to break up with you, and the big mouth new guy gave it to me.

This is exactly right. You've got to stick with the locations that use whole milk mozzarella and 7/11 sauce. There were a few Rosati cousins who moved to Arizona years after the original Valley owner established his place in Tempe in 1985. They were looking to make a buck off the name and didn't care about the quality of the ingredients/sauce/crust/cheese.

Had Pequod's for the first time today at lunch...it was pretty good...had the lunch special $4.95 for a 7" deep dish, added sausage and garlic. I'd eat there again.

Never understood adding garlic as a topping. There's already garlic in the sauce. Garlic on top can just dominate every other flavor on the pie.
