Stays after this year. Just made the comments on CSN during a Bears segment. He reasons that Gase does not have the track record yet to be a desirable head coaching candidate, unless he is willing to accept a job with a bad team.

This is news. Bernstein, on the other hand, has been saying for a while now Gase is gone after this year. Good for the Bears if he stays. Cutler shouldn't have to work with yet another offensive coordinator when the Bears offensively should be better next year, that is, if they can fix their O-line problems.

Another media windbag...the Bears hired Trestman after a 10-6 coach and "Moon" didn't say a fucking word. Look at Chico pestered his way into NFL coaching and look were he is ..if Singletary and the goof SF has now can get a job Gase is a fucking lock to be a head coach next year

That's fine of John Mullin to say that Gase might not want to go to a bad team as a head coach.

DOES JOHN MULLIN REALIZE THAT ALL TEAMS LOOKING FOR A COACH ARE BAD? If they weren't bad, they wouldn't have fired their coach.

John Mullin:

So the openings of bad teams next year will be better? The year after that will be better? Does Gase think he's gonna take over a Super Bowl winning team?

The Eagles would be a good job, wouldn't it? Same with Indy and San Diego.

Right now Gase is headed for Cleveland, Jacksonville or Houston.

Or stay with the Bears two more years until Fox retires, and Gase gets promoted to HC, unless Fangio gets the nod.

Yes. Indy is a good job. That's gonna be open after this year even if Indy wins that division. Unless they win 2 playoff games. Which they won't. So Gase will interview for that for sure. Don't know if he'll get it. I think the indy owner wants a big name with experience. Maybe Gruden. Maybe they'll give draft picks to the Saints to get Sean Peyton.

I don't think Philly is that good of a job. Bradford sucks. So a shitty QB means a bad job. And there isn't good QBs in the draft. Plus the Philly coach screwed up the roster cuz he's insane.

Fox signed for 4 years by the way. I don't think he'll retire before the 4 years are up. So Gase isn't gonna wait that long. Pace will have to fire Fox if he really wants Gase to be the next head coach.

Yes about Chip Kelly. He is the Trestman of the Eagles. Gimmick offenses with bad QBs don't work in the NFL.

But I'm sure Fox has some clause in the contract that will allow him to retire early if he wishes, which I do think he'll do. He's old, has health problems and doesn't need the aggravation of being a Bears head coach. The writing's on the wall, he just hasn't seen it yet. Don't think that would happen, though, that Pace fires Fox. Fox, in truth, is probably Pace's boss. Only Virginia could fire Fox, but she won't cause he's her age.

Of course. You don't need a clause in your contract if you want to retire. You can just retire. Fox isn't in as bad of shape as you make it out. He'll do the 4 years if he's allowed.

Gase is clearly being patient at this point, and I suspect he has a handful of HC jobs he'll take if they come up or stay put if they don't.

That being said, I thought his play calling and prep for the offense this year was inconsistent -granted there were injuries to deal with. Overall I thought he did a good job, but Vic was the more consistent of the two -with less talent- and the one I'm more worried about losing.

People that want to use Cutler as the measuring stick for Gase have short memories. Every 1st year with Cutler and a new coordinator seems to be 'Cutlers best year to date' -so I could give a shit about the Cutler factor in measuring Gase. We heard this after Martz got here, and we heard it after Trestman 1st got here. Now its Gase's turn to win the 'finally getting through to Cutler' praise. Its all window dressing, Jay Cutler is still Jay Cutler.

I like Gase and hope he sticks around for another season because I believe he is competent, but I am not convinced he is some coaching diamond in the rough by any stretch.

This coaching staff is a beneficiary of the halo effect. I have no doubt Gase is at least average and Fangio is very good, but they are being compared to Trestman (basically) on offense and Mel Tucker on defense. The Bears offense has a decent amount of talent but is statistically not that good. Gase should take any HC job he's offered.

Almost zero percent chance he is still with Bears next season.

The first brass ring in the looming coaching carousel likely will go to Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

Per a league source not connected in any way to Gase, three teams are expected to pursue Gase aggressively: The Eagles, Browns, and Dolphins.

Only two of those teams currently have vacancies. Cleveland is expected to make a coaching change, too.

Gase emerged as a hot candidate based on his work with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, an effort that came after three years of working with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Gase’s ability to thrive with a quarterback having a reputation of caring too much immediately followed by a quarterback having a reputation for caring too little bolsters the perception that Gase can get the most out of any quarterback.

And in a quarterback-driven league, that’s one of the most important skills any head coach can have.

The Eagles could have the first crack at Gase, given that they already have satisfied the Rooney Rule via the interview of current running backs coach Duce Staley. Gase, in theory, could be interviewed as soon as Monday and hired on the spot, if the two sides decide to proceed. But Gase, who is represented by Jimmy Sexton, surely won’t pounce on the first offer without exploring any and all others.

Last year, Gase was a finalist for the job in San Francisco, which ultimately went to Jim Tomsula. After the Broncos fired John Fox, Gase never received serious consideration for a promotion.

Cleveland could be the most intriguing option for Gase, who perhaps could persuade Peyton Manning to join Gase for one final season that would be more about erasing the memory of a horrendous 2015 for Peyton than chasing a Super Bowl title.

Someone has to explain to me all the love for a guy that is coordinator on a team with 6 wins. Bears are currently 20th in total offense and 22nd in points per game. Hardly a trophy performance.

Well, if I gave explanations for everything, there would be no point in having this board, nor having you as a member. Even as it is, you're not much of a member.

The last paragraph in the piece is fucking laughable. Manning is done, done, done, and the last thing the Browns need is to shitcan at least another season of their future by stroking Manning.

If I'm Gase, if Cleveland turns out to be the only head coaching offer left, I pass. Cleveland is a roaring dumpster fire, and what it needs most is stability, and ownership to GTFO of football decisions, but that is not going to happen.

Looks like you missed the point. Not surprised. Anyway, I guess having your vacuous posts litter the board every now and then does make this place a bit more lively than it would be in your absence.

I love how Gase is supposedly this hot commodity because he was in the same room with Peyton Manning for a while.

I can imagine all these owners coming in to work today saying "You see that Bears offense? I WANT THAT TODAY!".

Let's take a look at yesterday's starters at the receiving position.

Khari Lee UFA
Cameron Meredith UFA
Josh Bellamy UFA
Marc Mariani- 7th round

And they put up 17 points, and there should have been more, against a defense coordinated by one of the top HC candidates last year.

Unfortunately, this one of the reasons Gase will probably be gone, unless he decides to stay.

The other team had injuries too, and nothing to play for either.

He did an average job at best this year.

The ownership of a number NFL teams disagree.

He has three scheduled interviews already. And he is in a position to turn down bad situations like Cleveland.
