speaking of i read an interview with Olczyk saying he had a talk with a veteran on the team about the treatment of Crosby when he coached him his rookie year. That he needed to be protected, what is the back story on that?

A coupla weeks ago, I for some dumb reason tuned into the Score midday show. He was filling in for Goff, and he and Speigel were discussing the Hawks. Rozner, of all issues to address, decides to bag on Anisimov, saying he didn't think Anisimov came to play 100% of the time . Of course, never mind that Anisimov has done the following for you:

*Become that solid (to say the least) #2 center the Hawks have been needing for years, and also is centering the top scoring line in the league,
*Is on track to have a career scoring year,
*Is a solid faceoff guy, and
*Where do you find him in the offensive zone most of the time? PARKING HIS ASS IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING NET, of which Shaw is the only other guy on the team who seems to be capable of doing so. Anisimov's screen factored into the first goal tonite.

“It was a one-sided conversation,” Olczyk said. “I knew when that player walked out of the office and went back to the other veterans that my time as coach would be short.”

The Penguins lost that night to Tampa Bay, then lost six of their next seven games. Olczyk was fired Dec. 15. The team was 8-17-6.

“I would do the exact same thing again,” Olczyk said. “I had to make sure that kid was protected. I knew it was the right thing for the future of the organization.” ...

The whole league lacks a clear-cut top and bottom this year. The Pacific sucks, the Central is awesome, both Eastern divisions are just meh. You could just as easily say that if the Florida Panthers can rattle off ten wins in a row, the East can't be any good either. The last season I remember being this wide-open and not necessarily in a good way was 2004, with the pre-cap Wings not quite themselves, the Avs winding down, the Sens weaker than the year before, and the usual Flyers/Leafs/Bruins be-good-enough teams of the time.

Something, does seem to be clicking.

I'm not too worried about injuries for Crawford, seeing as how he probably won't be getting drunk and falling down a flight of stairs a second time. I am a little worried about overuse, because he's never made 60 starts or more in a year, and he's on pace for 66. In fairness, this is because he had to win the starting job from Turco in 2011, neither he nor Emery deserved to be a #1 in 2012, short season in 2013, he had a competent backup in Raanta for 2014, then two competent backups and a drunken fall down the stairs in 2015. Having to go it alone, despite proving himself able to do so, is new territory for him.

If this retooled defense/bottom six can keep doing what they did to the Penguins last night, if only for Darling's starts, that will go a long way toward keeping Crawford at around 60 starts to close out the regular season.

Panarin went for the hat trick on an empty net with the Pens down two, the Hawks' third goal already having been scored on the empty net. Letang went after Panarin for trying to show them up, then Toews came over to bump Letang and yelled at him, then Letang got Toews in a headlock and threw him down. Somewhere in there David Perron acted like an ass.
