In reading the Trib this morning, it's obviously their sports department has no clue who the next OC will be. Biggs is talking a promotion of Loggains from QB coach to OC, which he argues would be the least disruptive to Cutler and the offense. Another possibility given by the Trib is Whisenhunt, but neither excite me or anyone.

So here's your chance to outsmart the experts and write, 'Who's Your Guy?"

Jeff Davidson may get a phone call... former OC in Carolina w/ Fox; currently O Line in Minnesota.

They should ask Dan Fouts.

I would take Mike Shanahan, but doubtful he would accept an OC gig under another former Denver's HC.

But he did draft Cutler, and Cutler was productive under Shanny.

The Bears need to do something more high powered than promote a QB coach to OC, who know one has heard of. He has to be some kind of strategist, not just a mechanics coach.

For the first time in years, I think the correct question is who is the best offensive mind out there, and not who out there can help take Cutler to the next level. Cutler shouldn't factor into this next hire, IMO.

In theory, what you say is true. But coaching is also about relationships and managing people.

You could be talking about Mark Trestman---and he certainly was one of the league's best OCs for about one year---but he failed because he couldn't lead and lacked interpersonal skills.

I think Fox will probably select someone with a lot of experience already. Don't sell him short to take the quarterbacks coach, when he was able to get Fangio to leave San Francisco.

I want Jay Cutler to be the OC.

So when he fucks up during the game, he can head over to the sideline and the bench can hold up a mirror for him when he wants somebody to yell at.

This is pretty much my take on it.

Didn't Cutler pretty much call all the plays when Tice was OC? It sure seemed like it...

If Miami fans are upset by the Gase hire, how upset are Bears going to be by promoting Loggains to OC?

The Bears will probably hire him, because you can always count on them to do the wrong thing, especially when they can do the wrong thing cheaply.

I'd verify that the accomplishments of the offenses of NYG, Arizona, Carolina, etc., weren't due to just dumb luck and/or exceptional individual play, and then see who I can poach from those teams. There's always the NE tree as well.

Isn't the NE tree basically Josh McDaniels? He's not coming here. The Patriots do not have a quarterbacks coach.

The architects of Arizona's offense are Bruce Ariens and Tom Moore. Neither is coming here. Arizona doesn't have a QB coach.

I'm not excited by Ken Dorsey, the QB coach in Carolina.

Ben McAdoo is the (presumably) outgoing OC for the Giants. I don't know anything about him, but he seems worth checking out.

I'm assuming there are guys under the guys you mention or ones working elsewhere who've been influenced by those guys. A connected NFL person in a front office should know who is who and who has been influenced by what school of thought, etc. Under Lovie the Bears seemed to always hire a guy they knew they could work with (i.e. pliable and maybe not enough of a threat to supplant Lovie as the HC if things came to that), but ideally you'd be aware of offensive trends today and hire the person best suited to have the Bears embody those trends moving forward.

I want Whisenhunt too. He's a good OC. And for another reason. He's been fired twice as a head coach. So I don't think he'll be hired again. So you can have some stability knowing he'll be here for a while. He's kind of like Norv Turner now. Good OC but nobody wants him as a head coach anymore.

I probably trust Fox to make the correct call on coordinator hiring as any other aspect of his job. He always finds great subordinates.

I heard today that Gase was the first Bear coordinator to be chosen as a head coach since Buddy.

Continuity wins the day. I'm fine with that.

There was nobody out there that was knocking my socks off.

Look at the way he looks at David Fales. You know he has huge plans.

Look at all 4 of them. That's really not the look of champions. It's the look of the confused.
