I think it's kinda weird. Isn't he widely regarded as a bit of an idiot?

Yeah, the wonderboy out of Dallas was a workaholic but a miserable failure. Sportwriters would tell stories how oblivious he was to the outside world.

I never heard that he was an idiot, just not the best coach. He sounds very good in his current format.

I love Wanny. Wish he was on 670 instead of Bowen, Olin and Big Cat.

Not an idiot at all, just not head coach material.

He is on 670 but on M&H.

wanny's figured out that if he talks loud and excitedly saying some football-sounding things that he's got a nice easy career in the media, and quite honestly given his track record that's the way to go.

it's just kind of funny that out of all the places to ply his new trade he's latched on to chicago where he arguably had the most abject failure at the coaching thing. tho i wasnt paying attention very closely.... did people actually hate wanny, or did they just hate that he was in over his head as a NFL head coach, especially trying to replace ditka?

i dont think i've ever gotten a vibe that people hated HIM like they would dusty within a few years (and he was ahead of his time for claiming we're all racist for disliking him, wasn't he? =) but it was just that wannstedt's era was shit and even tho he tried hard to be a likeable guy it just didnt work out and people hated the results more than the coach...... right?

first three years wanny got a pass. after that they got sick of his wanny-isms and looks of total confusion on the sidelines. trading a first rounder for rick mirer was the final straw. I assume he had some cash left on his contract which is why he wasn't fired sooner.

"All the pieces are in place!" and then he goes 4-12.

His prediction of what would happen in the TCU/KSU game was spot on. On the SportsNetCentral show the camera pulled back as he was demonstrating proper blocking technique for field goal attempts. He loves talking about football. Flipping around sports channels I am now more likely to run into him than anyone else.

He really is very good at predicting what will happen in college football. That leads me to wonder why he always looked so exasperated when things didn't go as he anticipated while coaching.

He ranks second all-time in wins for Miami Dolphins head coaches, just 215 behind Don Shula.
