Sounds like a gay bar. Classy font. I give it 6 weeks.

This is like that time I joked that Dan Bernstein would start a Chicago-based Grantland except this seems much less fun to make fun of.

Would be nice if the registration worked.

There's such a lack of local sports reporting in Chicago that I'm glad somebody has decided to fill the void. People are gonna be lining up to pay $100/yr for this.

Might have been a good idea to work on the website before launching.

1. Who the hell are these people?

2. No, nobody is gonna pay for this shit. I know they claim they're gonna be unique and different. But they won't. It's just sports. There is no way to be different. So why pay when you can get internet crap for free? No reason

It seems to me to be like it's three really.smart.guys. who want you to pay to read their shit.

Pass.

If one of them gets hired by a major publication, this site goes away asap.

And if you want someone to pay to read your stuff, you better do a better job of interacting with people. Sell yourself. Not "Hey, we're 3 guys you may have heard of from time to time when you're listening to sports radio so buy our shit now".

Yeah, it reminds me of DJs who would get into podcasting while they're in between jobs, calling it "the future of radio" until re-embraced by its past.

There is already a glut of free content in this area, so starting a pay site seems foolish. Wasn't this Hub's business model with the now-defunct Pro Football Weekly?

Interesting when you go here https://theathletic.com/2016/01/24/welc ... -athletic/ which is their "Welcome", the link doesn't work.

Off to a bad start, guys.

Might as well just make it a free site with a message board.

2 of them left a major corporation according to Feder. They were at ESPNchicago.com. I never read that site.

They're gonna go under. Nobody is gonna pay. So if they want to cover the teams on the road, it's gotta come out of their pocket to start. They gonna spend their own money for air travel and hotels? No. And if they're not, then people will read the sites that do travel guys.

The Score doesn't travel people. But ESPN 1000 travels guys for all Chicago sports teams. Nick Fredel and Jesse go to all the road games for the Cubs and Bulls. I think they have a Sox guy that travels too. That's cuz Bristol gives all the local markets money for this. Cuz they want these local websites to be successful.

Think of all of the sports fans in Chicago. What are they thinking when they hear of this new site?

Chicago Sports Fan: Let's see, I can read Beardown for free or I can pay for these ass holes? I'll choose the former!!!!

If we started charging to read posts, what poster would you pay to read?

Think about it this way. The porn industry isn't making money anymore because everybody gets it for free. The pay sites are failing.

So if porn can't make money, how do three guys think that people are gonna pay money to read a column about a god damn Bulls game? Really, what great thoughts are these guys gonna have that I can't come up with myself? Or read for free somewhere else?
