"You asked about Dirk Nowitzki," Abdul-Jabbar said. "Dirk Nowitzki's shot is very hard to block, but I don't think that he was able to have a dominant career because he couldn't do other things. If he could have shot like that and rebounded and played defense and blocked shots, then he would have been all-around, and he would have gotten more credit. He was like a one-trick pony.

"You want guys that can shoot like that on your team. I'm not saying that he lacked value, but he would have been considered at a higher level if he had done more on the court other than just shoot the ball."

Come on. Dirk was more than a one trick pony. Sure he was not a dominant defender.

But he is the 6th leading scorer in NBA history. The best player in Mavs history.

He averaged 25 and 10 during the playoffs in his career. He carried the Mavs to an NBA title.

Kareem has a lot of bad basketball thoughts. He reminds me of a guy from Wisconsin that I've met.

Agreed. T-Bone needs to stick to football thoughts.

Yeah, he's typical of most old guys. The game prior to them was played by slow, tiny, white guys with their shoes tied together, but it peaked and stopped progressing immediately after they played.

Kareem has been a hater all his adult life, it's got nothing to do with being old. It comes from being an asshole.

He's probably wrong about knowing where he lives too.

Kareem is wrong, but only to a degree. But just like Kareen, I too couldn't care less if he is the "greatest Dallas Maverick of all time".

Dirk had two, maybe three tricks.

This is really getting semantical now. I've always heard that if you're a one trick pony, that better be a really good fucking trick. In Dirk's case, it is/was. Guy is a hell of a player and competitor.

Sounds like a famous criticism of Kareem:

Joey wrote:
I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.

He's right but the one trick is great

Could almost say the same about Shaq.

Both guys had room to be even better.

Who's better Melo or Dirk?

You tell Dirk to drag Walton & Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes. Then we'll talk.

Anyone that averages a double double in the playoffs for his career is not a one trick pony.

And Dirk is WAYYY ahead of Melo. Stop with that nonsense

Those guys were slow, tiny, and white. Kareem never had to go up against LeBron!
