my annual Lenten thread

Post them here if you know of a good one. I would prefer ones that don't use the cookie cutter, pre breaded filets that the restaurant just drops in a fryer.

I agree. I do not like Hamburger Helper. Not even as a kid.

The Tuna Helper and Chicken Helper are better. Not as good as some homemade casseroles, but tasty relative to the effort involved preparing them.

I love it. Don't get the kind with the cheese on the top.

However, this is a fish fry thread.

It's too cold to go out today, but the special at the deli in my office is pepper and egg sandwiches. Just another example of religion lowering my quality of life.

I don't like the egg. Pepper and cheese, yes absolutely. In fact, I might stop at Johnnie's on my way home. But it's not our Lent for another few weeks, so I'll probably also get a double sausage.

I've seen some places that use ground black pepper as the pepper. I was of the belief that a pepper and egg is marinated sweet peppers, like you would get on a beef. I can eat those as a sandwich alone. I love the combination of the oil and pepper where the oil itself is full flavored and the pepper has been reduced to a slippery and soft texture. The egg is just a filler.
