Even Steve Stone will admit his terrible comment was wrong. Remember, statement was never who is better. Is was Abreu was FAR SUPERIOR.
Abreu had his down year. Rizzo hasn't yet.

2013 was a pretty shitty year for Rizzo. We only have two seasons of MLB info on Abreu. Unfortunately for Rizzo supporters, we have a lot more for him. Abreu crushes Rizzo when you compare their career averages. The rest of this is just misdirection to avoid the truth.

That wouldn't be kind to Abreu. He's a worse fielder and base runner than Rizzo. He's better at hitting for average and has a tad more power. Rizzo has the better eye.

Rizzo is 26 while Abreu is 29*.

Intangibles are "who knows".

Sounds like a lot of Cubs fans are lining up to make an OPS bet this year!

Abreu .383, .347
Rizzo: .386, .387

ff, abreu could be possibly better at this point of time given we're only working with 2 years of performance. i'm biased to think rizzo is better.

what is not a unknown is the answer to why this thread was created.

"in time".

As any smart baseball fan knows, this year is the tiebreaker. Abreu got a year. Rizzo got another year.

Rizzo got his "sophomore slump" year gone while Abreu was still on the island.

5.7 vs. 5.5 won't indicate who is better.

if 3.8 vs. 5.6 occurs i guess it solves it? but then they're still going to play for the next 8-10 years.

Abreu had his "sophomore slump".

Who do you think will be better in 2016 and by how much?

using what stat?

DWAR
career 0.0... -3.0
OWAR
career 11.8... 10.3
WAR
career 15.9... 9.3

2 year
DWAR -0.4.... -3.0
OWAR 9.7... 10.3
WAR 11.3...9.3

and remember the "BEST" analyst in baseball did say "FAR SUPERIOR CAREER'

seems like most Cubs fan agree both are good while the subbies cling to a unsubstantiated position that one is FAR SUPERIOR... but I guess having one btter stat is enough

It's convenient to leave out the part of his career when Rizzo didn't get on as if it doesn't count.

I'm smelling an Abreu/Rizzo bet on here. Lots of confident Cubs fans that their guy Rizzo is as good or better.

The bar was set by Cubs fans before as OPS.

So, will Abreu or Rizzo have a higher OPS this year.

back to your beloved PECOTA Rizzo is a 19 point underdog.... so are you taking Jose and giving the 19 points?

I'm looking to bet with those who think that Rizzo is better. If you want 19 points then I'll pass.

how about traditional Roto 5x5?

Runs Scored (R)
Home Runs (HR)
Runs Batted In (RBI)
Stolen Bases (SB)
Batting Average (AVG)

No thanks.

How about OPS like the bar was set in this thread? I'm told most of those stats are pretty useless also.

Damn, you're right.

If I win, you're required to come to 2 board outings between October 2016 and September 2017 while wearing a Rizzo shirsey.

I'll wear my Cubs shirt to the next one I go to if you win. If I win, you have to eat a well done steak.
