WPA is probably worse than WAR.

I'll stick with the best hitting 1B and be happy with it.

There is no reason to believe that there is a correct one right now.

What is your issue with WPA? Its pretty good.

And if you're doing OPS with two guys in different leagues, you should at least do OPS+

That's a reason FOR using it. Were not trying to predict the future. The bet is based on what happened in 2016, not how it bodes for the future.

WPA is not highly predictive. Generally, it is not used for player analysis and projecting the future. But it does give us a picture of which players helped their team the most during the course of a game.

Seems perfect

To me, that is a flawed statistic.

As I said, OPS is fine with me.

Actually you said you didnt care how many errors your 1B makes or how few SBs he has, I guess that also means when he doesnt play games due to many nagging injuries.

This is sounding like Kyle Schwarber might end up to be the best baseball player ever based on these new guidlines.

Well if you read the whole statement, its more clear.

My god, Is a Sox fan saying he wants a predictive statistic over a descriptive one?

What is Abreu a year early or something?

Ok, so it's clear we are all in agreement that Rizzo is the better overall baseball player. As hitters only, its close.

I'll be completely honest. I just don't care enough about this discussion to continue it.

I wanted a bet, on OPS, which is what the Cub fans set as the way to judge Rizzo and Abreu. I think it is better for 1B.

You can think what you want.

Right ,

Just admit you walked into your own poop on that one.
We've discussed WAR for hours on here before and the consensus is that it is a flawed statistic even with the name.

WAR, what is it good for?

So...when Rizzo beats Abreu in OPS this season, after you pay out your losses, will you be unequivocally admitting that Anthony Rizzo is the superior hitter and all around ballplayer?

This season is the tiebreaker.

But yes, to answer your question, if Rizzo hits better than Abreu then he would be the better hitter.

It's funny how you and I got the bet with IMU and KW that we wanted, and then after all parties agreed RPB and biggie come in trying to change it.

The wager is made.

It is just interesting how you guys cannot seem to back Abreu being superior on any statistic but one. That tells me the player simply isn't superior.

I'll make additional bets on HR and slugging % if you want. We don't have to keep it at just one.

Those are clearly factored into OPS.

I'll bet on Runs, RBI, WAR, WPA, SB, FLD%, 2B, 3B, OBP, Walks, SO ...maybe some others I can't think of yet.

$10 a statistic?

You know what is awesome though? I still know Rizzo is going to win this easily, so that means Rizzo has some beastly weeks coming ahead.

Just wait until that hitting weather happens!

I'm just worried about the 500 PA requirement at this point. With a contending, deep team, I'm not sure how many ABs you can keep wasting on Rizzo if his OPS drops south of .700

Are defensive metrics included because that would make this extremely lopsided.

No, defensive metrics are not factored into OPS.

Yeah Douche I get that.

Just sayin... Rizzo vs. ABREOO (odd but whatever) isn't really even a contest IRL. The more valuable player by a wide margin is rizzo.

Abreu is better.

Incorrect.

But I respect your right to have a terrible opinion and don't want you jailed. At least, not jailed for this reason.

But yeah you are a big dumb dumby.

How the tables have turned. Again.

Both should finish...well above current numbers.
