I think they are all so similar and many old, you need to have the place packed.

ETHS no doubt is a community based program and people come out no matter what. Its SRO when they are good.

The one place I am glad is on that list is Frankfort, met a buddy there to scout a kid and I was pretty impressed. Had a college feel there.

To prove my point, Proviso East really isnt a nice place, but when you pack it to the rafters, the place seems alive.

As a Lyons Tiwnship alumnus, that gym sucked.

Lincoln-Way? I worked on the construction of Lincoln-Way North. The gym is HUGE.

Only one I've been to is Waukegan. Played there and been to many sectional games there. It's a pretty great venue and revered here in the north burbs, at least it was 15 years ago.

First game I ever played was there. Got off the bus and an armed guard showed us to our caged off locker rooms.

8 AM on an early Saturday morning didnt bring out the big audience like you might think! :D

Best gym atmosphere I have been in was Centralia but they no longer use their old gym. Leo is a dump but a good atmosphere. Same with Mt. Carmel's old gym. Thornton is another good place to watch a game.

Already? I think I was there in '07 or '08. That was a huge project.

The LWays have millions of dollars of debt. North is now going to be closed and West isn't too far behind.

Walt and JORR will be pleased.

Argo was my home court.....was benched for looking up a girls skirt during a timeout.....Bobbie Isaacs shot a jumper in the stands  The ship in the middle isn't the Argo but a clipper ship. Played at Leo whose locker room reminded me of a jail and at LTHS where I was more worried about someone dropping 25 on me than the gym.Great article

I'll admit I don't spend a lot of time on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities, but I've never heard anyone refer to Wharton as "The Madison Square Garden of the Quad Cities"

I was at a doubleheader at the old gym last night. It was okay. Not like New Trier and Evanston going at it in Beardsley, but a decent place to watch a game.

Best guy to ever play for Argo was a kid named Saul White. He was a guy with a lot of problems. If I'm guessing I'm gonna say he's dead now. He tried to transfer to the Proviso East team with Rivers and Ricky Wilson. That never worked out.

First game at Evanston, I think we are 10-0 as Freshman and some guy is sitting in the stands behind our bench at 8 Am eating a plate of ribs, yelling out "you aint hot shit, you think 'yall that"

Granted for various development and drug reasons our Freshman team didnt develop into the varsity parts it could have, but we went 24-0 and didnt have a close game the whole season as Freshman....we had 4 of the greatest driveway shooters the northern suburbs had ever known...plus at Center we had a guy who was 6'2", but was playing MLB on the Varsity football, (yes, JORR the one that beat ETHS twice)...the guy was an animal, I guarded him everyday in practice, you couldnt move him or get a board...complimented the shooters well. He ended up playing with Jurko at EIU.

Proviso East is a great gym when it is full. Most of the fans are above the court and it is like a wave of decibels coming down on the opposing team.

I saw a sectional game at Hinsdale Central as a kid. The atmosphere was electric.

I am a huge fan of the fieldhouse look, wish more places had the look at kept the plaace up...kind of like Butler. Gives personality, tradition, etc.

with that said...Findlay and Bishop Gorman in Nevada are like mini Bball factories posing as HS's...kinda like Oak Hill Academy, some theory, except these places are brand new, thus if you get invited to attend, you go! Then you go the school that your guy who got you in suggests you attend.

Many of those same kids end up at U of Zona, its not by accident.

That said, the whole facility, Gym, workout, dorms, just like a mini campus.

My brother played freshman basketball. I remember going to those early Saturday morning games. I distinctly remember a cold, gray morning at St. Francis de Sales. It was kind of enjoyable. These were the days before hardcore parenting for scholarships had kicked in so things were very casual...big empty stadiums with a few disinterested parents in attendance. Also every school has that one booster old guy who shows up to every home event with the school's name on it. Those types are the backbone of the community.
