In all seriousness, Boedker is surely better than Panik (and Jiri "Milk Carton" Sekac), so he'd help here, but a little goes a long way when you're a top scoring option for the Phoenix Coyotes. We gave them a third-pairing defenseman and a first-round pick for a guy who was a healthy scratch in playoff games and still unequivocally won the trade. Things are just weird down there.

That healthy scratch thing was not one of Q's finer moments.

Boedker is the guy I want. LW with speed who can score a bit and will lead the forecheck on the Toews line. Isn't that EXACTLY what we need? Also will be cheaper than Ladd and Erickson.

yea, that was ugly when he benched Vermette and Teuvo after they were two of the few players who played alright. Biggest and possibly only mistake Q made in the playoffs.

But, then again you can't argue with results and some might say that the reason Vermette and Teuvo played so well later in the playoffs is cause they were inspired by the benching.

That is exactly what we need, but no one is ever cheap with Don Maloney on the other end of the phone line. Dude presides over a jury-rigged pile of crap that no one likes and still gets a king's ransom for anyone he trades away.

According to multiple people at ESPN and other places, Andrew Ladd was traded to the Hawks. Looks like Marko Dano from Rockford and two draft picks as well one or two more players from Winnipeg. I'm guessing The Jets weren't dumb enough to take Bickell.

EDIT: According to Mark Lazerus, the Jets ate part of Ladd contract too.

We send Dano and our 1st, we also get Jay Harrison so that we can have yet another seventh defenseman.

I like it. All in!

GREAT deal. We don't lose either Teuvo OR Shaw. Sweet!

By dumping Dano, how does that trade look now?

Basically, Saad for Anisimov and Ladd. I can live with it.

Sounds good. I just hope Ladd has something left and he's not Kris Vesteeg redux.

It's a great trade for the Hawks if we win the Cup. It's a great trade for the Jets if the Avs/Wild/Perds bounce the Hawks in the first and Winnipeg drafts in the high teens/low twenties in addition to getting Dano.

Initial reaction was it seems like an overpay for a rental player

Although it's a rental player who knows Q, and who knows Toews and Hossa and how to fit into the system. Again, it could be Versteeg repeated, but it seems like Dano wasn't really a good fit for Q and I'd rather trade Dano than Teuvo.

It was an overpay, yes, but for a deadline trade, it was reasonable. With Toews in decline as the highest-paid player in the league, the Hawks gotta win a fourth Cup before they lose more players, Hossa falls apart, and Seabrook hits three spins.

Love the trade. Wanted Boedker, but also thought Ladd would cost us much more than just a very late first rounder and a shitbag prospect who IMO will never amount to anything.

If the price was Schmaltz or Pokka I would've been upset.

It's a steep price for Ladd as a rental, but you have to win now. We don't know what Seabs and Keith will look like 4 years from now when they are at or near 35.

I don't even think it was a steep price. A first round pick that will probably be 25 or higher and a prospect who might not even make it to the NHL. all for a better chance at winning the Cup this year? Seems like a bargain to me.

I have a feeling Dano will do better in Winnipeg. He couldn't do much worse than he did here.

The Jets kinda need to dream it all up again. They tried to be a Kings/Ducks north-south physical team, but were a little too physical and didn't have the penalty kill/goaltending to make up for it. This put them in the vicious circle of reputation calls where they got called for lots of penalties because they're a team that takes lots of penalties. Blake Wheeler pointed this out a while ago, which probably just led to even more penalties.

The pick is easy. It's more Dano, but you have to trade a high level prospect to get a guy like Ladd. I'm just glad they didn't have to part with Teuvo. I like the move and it's a trade that was needed.

Now I just hope they can also get Hamhuis.

Let's also hope that whoever we play in the first round loses their #1 defenseman, because that was the only reason we got by Nashville last year.

Steep price...yes

Over pay...no

It was going to take a lot to get Ladd. Dano hasn't been able to crack the NHL roster, was recently hurt...and appeared to be fading from future plans. Great trade...especially if they can get another Cup.

I guess we just disagree on the type of prospect Dano is. At this point I would call him a mid level prospect headed toward bum status.

The way he got ushered out of Chicago showed that he has maturity and character issues. I'm referring to his infamous last shift where he refused to come off for a minute and a half and then sulked and pouted on his way to the bench. He never saw the ice in a Hawks uniform again.

yes, if there's one thing teh Hawks have proven over the past 7 years is that the only way they can advance in the playoffs is if they get lucky with the other team having key guys injured.

I guess using that logic we can say that the only reason we didn't win the Cup in 2011 is cause Bolland was hurt for most of the first round vs Vancouver.

Dano is ten weeks younger than Teravainen. If we're not going to let people write Teuvo off as a bust at 21 (which we shouldn't, because that's ridiculous), then Dano deserves the benefit of the doubt as well, particularly with a team that can give him playing time at the NHL level.

So you don't feel that the Perds with Weber would have beaten the February-in-April Hawks team they faced? Looked to me like they went to shit without their best player, as teams often do.

Jiri Sekac is on waivers to make room for Ladd. Brandon Mashinter, however, still here.
