Capitals had 24 shots, 14 on goal. Hawks had 11 with 5 on goal. The tables turned after the first period, but that sure looks pretty thorough to me.

Sometimes, it's nice games are three periods instead of one.

Sure the Caps played pretty good in the first period. But I have a hard time hearing how "overwhelmed" they were when the period ends in a tie. Overwhelmed would be if they were down 3-0 after the 1st.

The Hawks MVP so far this year is Crawford, not Kane. He kept them in the game while the Caps dominated play in the first. The hawks did virtually the same thing in the 2nd. I was starting to wonder if the Caps were just that much faster.

Pretty amazing to see the forechecking from the Caps including Ovechkin.

I was just talking to a buddy who was at the game. He had pretty much the same takeaway I did. The Hawks came out tentative and slow...but at no time did it really seem that the game was getting away from them.

Then they figured a few things out...turned up the heat for the second and into the third...then is was basically over.

Very similar to a lot of their playoff games the past few years.

Pretty solid end result against the leading team in hockey...that's about as amped up these Hawks get this time of year...especially without Hossa and Kruger and while breaking in some new guys.

We're watching a historical run. CH needs to chill out a little...and all the Seabrook bashers should eat a bag of dicks.

Any word on when Hossa is expected back? It's been about two weeks.

Gotta figure the only reason Nashville beat them the other night was because Hossa was out.

No one is talking about the other new guy. Even though I keep hearing he was a garbage throw in..I thought he fared well today. He didn't do anything stupid when I was watching and he did a nice job on the PK.

Fleischmann? He was much better than I expected. He seems reinvigorated with Teravainen centering him. He's supposed to have good chemistry with Weise, too, so once that line comes together, things should look pretty good.

How nice for Teuvo that the team is so committed to his success that they went out and got him two linemates on top of addressing the nominal first line and the defense. Some would say moving him up, down, and across the lineup was a disservice. I would say they're doing everything they can to find something that suits him.

Why wouldn't they do that? He has shown what he is capable of when in the right situation. Teuvo is a big part of the next few years for the Hawks.

Oh, I know, I'm just saying that some people think he's getting a raw deal or that he was on the way out. I don't think that's the case at all.

Ladd was pretty invisible out there aside from the one secondary assist which banked off a Caps player leg and went to Teuvo who then made a great pass to Toews.

Fleishman played really well on the other hand, hopefully he can keep that up.

Hawks got dominated in the first, but turned the tables and dominated the 2nd.

I gotta say, that was without a doubt the worst announcing I've ever heard for a game. Must've been NBC's D team. Several mis-calls including saying Hotlby made a save on Desi's great move when he clearly rang it off the post clean, taking 5 replays of the Rasmussen goal before finally noticing the amazing play Panik made on the pass and even then barely acknowledging it. Worst of all, never bothering to find out what Hammer's unsportsmanlike penalty was for. For the record, it was for yelling at the ref for missing a blatant high stick to the face of Desi.

Production values were also awful. Like they didn't even try. Thought for sure they would at some point put a camera on Capitals assistant coach Todd Reirdon and talk about how he's from Deerfield. Guy was my high school teammate and defense partner my senior year. Those are the kind of stories that usually get brought up in a national telecast.

Anything beyond Doc and Olczyk is pretty bleak. But you are correct. Yesterday was just plain awful. Engblom sounded at times like he never played the game.

all that praise for Holtby is the agenda to keep him at the top for Vezina consideration. they practically ho-hummed Crawford all game even though he was spectacular down the stretch when the Hawks got into penalty-mode. No one will do well vs 6-on-3. Dont care who it is.

Neither one of them is at the top of Vezina consideration. At this point Schneider is pulling away from the pack.

Oh, the media has been sucking Holtby's dick for years. There's been such a paucity of great Canadian goaltenders that Mike Smith made the last Olympic team. The best goalies right now are Americans, Finns, and Swedes, with Carey Price and not much else to speak for on the Canadian side. Somehow Holtby has been anointed the next great Canadian goalie instead of the Montreal-born Corey Crawford, I guess because The Narrative is that Crawford is only a product of his teammates (who themselves, to hear it from some idiots, are only products of one another).

Crawford should have been at the top of Vezina consideration until the last couple weeks when he was getting lit up more times than a menorah. Probably down to Schneider, Holtby, and maybe Lundqvist on reputation.

Devils and Rangers I agree. Washington is tough and someone has to come out of the East. I would think it will be them or Tampa or Florida. If Washington gets there I would give them a better shot than anyone out of the East since Boston won it in 2011. Defense isn't as good as Tampa last year (Hedman by himself clinches that), but they are deeper up front with bigger star power and much much better in net.

I'm pulling for Florida.

Hawks-Panthers final would have some great plot lines.
