Are you really not placing any value on the opt-out which is the entire reason he signed back with the Cubs?

and don't forget Zobrist:

from the Washington Post: according to a person familiar with the process, each of the Nationals and Giants offered Zobrist more money than he ultimately accepted from the Cubs.

No, it wasn’t a ton – reportedly $60 million over four years, rather than the $56 million he accepted – but guys rarely do it at all. And it’s very cool to know that he wanted that much to come to the Cubs.

"subbies" here is more math $50 million > $56 million

but you guys are right nobody wants to put up with Maddons stupid pranks or maybe it is that the CON man conned 3 guys and their agents...

Not really. I dont think anyone alleged that it was super hilarious.

It's gonna be a long year of pretending to not be rooting against the Cubs if you're this upset already.
Don't be defensive. I just think most players secretly thought this was kind of dumb.

Oh, and how is this rooting against the Cubs?

Defensive? No, Im just pointing out the holes in your logic.

I love that you're thinking about Cub players and their secret thoughts though.

This is just evidence that the Cubs get under your skin very easily and that you let small things like a spring training entrance bother you.

Just calm down.
You think it bothers me? It is an observation. That is it. Does everything you post about bother you?

Yeah, so I never said that they hate it.

I just think a lot of them think it is kind of dumb.

Now, go ahead and be all Cubbie fanboy because someone dare have an opinion that is not "EVERYTHING CUBBIE IS AWESOME".

The opt out is a big deal! Gives the player leverage and the opportunity to seek out the next big deal! A lot of value in it, no doubt.

this from Fangraohs:

On Friday, the Cubs won the bidding for Jason Heyward, convincing the outfielder to come to Chicago despite offers for more guaranteed money from the Nationals, the Cardinals, and reportedly one other team, perhaps the Angels. While Chicago’s offer of $184 million over eight years is certainly a substantial amount, he apparently could have taken $200 million guaranteed by going with one of the other offers. Instead he chose the Cubs, and along with putting him on baseball’s best team in 2016, the fascinating structure of the contract Chicago gave him may end up making this deal a big win for both sides.

For less years with an opt out. The $200 million that was rumored was for more years and without an opt out.

Also, his pre opt out numbers are even higher per year and he is almost certainly going to opt out when he can either in year 3 or 4.

I clicked on this thread, said "Yeah, that probably gets some courtesy laughs as it really isn't even that amusing" and then I moved on with my day until you pulled some Baby MacNoun level rageposting.

I'm also going to guess that Joe Maddon leads the league in "dad jokes" this year too.

Your mental state is worse than I initially thought. It's only March 1st. It's a long way to October. Maybe take a break.

Are you really not placing any value on the opt-out which is the entire reason he signed back with the Cubs?

the reason he like Cespedes took one year is that 2017's free agent class is weak and they look to make more.... but JORR he is risking $20 million ...
a bad year or an injury and he gets less.... would have you taken that gamble and walk away from $20 million guaranteed?

You cannot get around that if it was about him desperately wanting to come back to the Cubs he would have taken the original QO.

You know what this contract proved (and it was the same thing he was negotiating with the O's)? It proved he was full bent on being a 2017 free agent unfettered by a QO and didn't particularly care who payed him in 16.

Who gives a shit if he passed on more money to be a Cub or not? The fact that he came back is all that matters, along with the fact that the deal he signed, allows the Cubs to turn CF over to Almora, providing he is ready in 2017. It worked out perfectly. Who cares if teams offered more money, he got less than he could have had he taken the QO, there is a weak free agent class in 2017 or teams didn't want to give up a draft choice to sign him....all that matters is that it worked out perfectly.

no one is arguing that Steve.

This argument is the over the validity of the "X came to the Cubs for less".
