Agreed, another fantastic episode.

Previews for next week show an appearance from another minor Breaking Bad recurring character.

I think Nacho is seeking Mike's help to take out Tuco. It's got to be him showing up again, and I'm guessing the plot ends up backfiring on Mr. Varga.

Love the show. Just an awesome reaction shot with Mike at the end of last episode, where he really starts to break bad. Any scene with Mike and Nacho is top notch.

Nacho was never in Breaking Bad as far as I can remember, correct? Gotta think he meets his demise soon then.

Never appeared but supposedly he was mentioned in the season 2 episode "Better Call Saul".

Or Lalo

While Jesse and Walt have Saul on his knees in the desert, Saul is heard uttering "it wasn't me. It was Ignacio!" he is relieved that "Lalo" didn't send them.

goddamn this show has me chomping at the bit with every end of an episode. when the credits flashed i was like "no! i want to see the meeting!" it is so well paced, and even with its formulaic approach, it doesn't always go in the direction you think.

fantastic stuff.

I thought it was kind of weak compared to the first 3 episodes, but it was still very good.

its funny cause he's the antagonist on the show, yet as Michael McKeon even said Monday night, he's not the bad guy here. He's actually the only person who truly knows what a scumbag his brother is and how its an insult to the law that he is able to be an attorney. Let's not forget that in the grand scheme of things, Jimmy is a bad person headed down a path towards turning into a criminal.

On the other hand, Chuck fucking up Jimmy's career before it even got started was a dick move no matter how you slice it (and is likely more fueled by jealousy "the law is MY domain, not Jimmy's" than respect for the law). Add on the fact that he let my guy Howard take the fall for it.

And he steals newspapers.

Good point. I wish that Jimmy would have included that in his "come roll around in the dirt with me" response.

Ooops, I didn't mean to attribute shakes with that quote there...my apologai.

I don't agree with that reasoning. I think his motive for not wanting Jimmy to be a lawyer is his respect for the law and not rooted in any sort of jealousy.

I don't agree with that reasoning. I think his motive for not wanting Jimmy to be a lawyer is his respect for the law and not rooted in any sort of jealousy.

I'd guess we'll find out more about that as the show goes on.

I think the scene in the boardroom where Chuck nitpicks Jimmy's outreach program (Even Ed Begley and Chuck were alright with it) speaks to jealousy. It didnt come off like protecting the law or the firm. It came off like he just wanted to take Jimmy down a peg.

Also this...

"You are not a real lawyer! University of American Samoa for Christ's sake? An online course? What a joke! I worked my ass off to get where I am! And you take these short cuts and suddenly you're my peer?! You do what I do because you're funny and you can make people laugh?! I've committed my life to this! You don't slide into it like a cheap pair of slippers and then reap all the rewards!"
― Chuck McGill.[src]

That seems like jealousy

And I read that as someone who has the immense respect for the law and the hard work it takes to be a good lawyer and doesn't appreciate someone who takes short cuts.

same with the outreach program where Chuck was 100% correct in suspecting that Jimmy had solicited clients which is a big no no.

I think he is at the very least jealous that Jimmy makes people laugh. He all but said it in those words.

100% correct? Howard seemed to think otherwise. He nearly cut Chuck off before he even started and then out of respect let him finish

But like I said, I think we'll definitely find out more about Jimmy and Chuck's relationship as the show goes on so maybe it will become clearer.

I read that differently, not jealous, just annoyed that he had to work his ass off to be a highly respected lawyer and now Jimmy wants to be considered his peer without any of the hard work, getting by solely on his personality.

But, like you said, this will probably be flushed out more as we go along so no point debating it now.

Love this show so much. This past episode was just great. Enjoyed almost every scene in the episode. I really liked the scene with Mike and the M40 sniper rifle. Pretty cool to see Mike and Jimmy's parallel descents into truly scumbag territory.

he is the big brother who has looked upon jimmy as the black sheep. he thinks he knows jimmy will fuck up, because jimmy has fucked up so much (and chuck has bailed him out), that chuck doesn't want to accept anything jimmy does as legit. he got him fired from the firm once jimmy was making his way up from the copy room because he thought the bigger the fish, the more ways jimmy can find the wrong way to cut it and kill everybody.

chuck is not jealous. he is afraid of jimmy's success because the only way jimmy has handled success is to sabotage it in the past. what he did well was conning people, which is what chuck abhorred about him. he doesn't want to acknowledge jimmy's accomplishments because he thinks jimmy will just go right back to his old ways and take him down with him again and again.

but he is being a dick about it.

That's kind of how I see it, except I think being a dick is understating it. I suppose Chuck probably has the moral high ground here, but he's a major league asshole. I think it's fair to view him as the "bad guy" here.

Chuck had no problem with Jimmy when Jimmy was waiting on him hand and foot, bringing all his weird crap to his house.

Bet Jimmy regrets not having Chuck committed.

I agree with a lot of that but I still get a jealous vibe from Chuck. Im not saying it's 100% jealousy, Im sure he cares about the law, the firm and that is part of it.

Chuck worked his ass off to get where he got and Jimmy went to some bullshit night school and now Jimmy is working at Chuck's firm on the strength of that BS school and his ability to make people laugh.

I dont know how someone can say read these words and say there is no jealousy

"You don't slide into it like a cheap pair of slippers and then reap all the rewards!"

well, except chuck has reaped the rewards of his accomplishments already. he believes jimmy doesn't deserve to be where he is, but he doesn't think jimmy has something that he doesn't--tangibly. you could make an argument like you said about him being jealous of a trait jimmy has, like being charismatic and a crowd-pleaser. but definitely not jealous of what jimmy's accomplished or anything.
