I think this is a very interesting sentence in light of the attempted redefinition of what a rape is by a certain faction in our society. No one is making any allowances for a drunken Patrick Kane or any drunken man for that matter. A drunken Patrick Kane is still responsible for his actions. But many of the same people who would harshly judge Kane (or any man) for his actions while drunk, somehow feel that a drunken woman is not the slightest bit responsible for her actions while inebriated.

I don't consider such a view to be "feminist" in any way. In fact, it's as patriarchal as an idea could possibly be. It treats grown women as if they are children. And yet, adherence to such an idea seems to be the current conventional wisdom.

Jon Krakauer has written a book about rape on the University of Montana campus. One of the women he writes about did about a dozen 100 proof shots at a party and had sex with four football players. She actually claims that she never protested, but inside she was thinking "no". She wasn't unconscious. She admits that to the men she probably seemed to be a willing participant. Yet she and Krakauer consider what happened a rape and Krakauer finds it ridiculous that the DA refused to prosecute.

Women shouldn't somehow be absolved of all responsibility when they willingly get loaded. And they shouldn't lose the right to make choices while inebriated. Sometimes people- men and women- make mistakes. Sometimes drugs and/or alcohol are the reason they make mistakes. But everyone should own their mistakes.

Looks like JORR is victim blaming this morning. Being drunk and dancing, making out or having sex with someone who you wouldn't normally sleep with is one thing. Most people have been guilty of that. However, being drunk isn't an excuse for rape. If a woman is wearing the shortest dress ever or if she is ass-hole-naked, no one has the right to rape her.

Men aren't being raped by women at the same rate so let's save the equality crap. Your entire focus is on pointing out the times where women have lied or there was some sort of gray area. Actual rape happens at an alarming rate and we should spend more time focusing on that.

You obviously believe in a "rape culture" that I don't think exists. In any case, I want to make a few things clear. I think you'd like to paint me as some doddering old guy who thinks the definition of rape is some guy with a knife and a ski mask. No, the vast majority of rapes are date or acquaintance rapes. But the rape "epidemic" is a result, not of more actual rapes, but of an expanded definition of what rape is. I'm sure you know that there is a school of feminist thought that every sexual interaction (and perhaps some non-sexual interactions) between a male and a female constitutes a rape. By that definition you and I are both rapists. I take issue with that. I'll take a wild guess that you do as well.

Also, I believe the only time I've ever discussed a woman or women lying about rape in this forum was within the context of the Kane case. And here I'm not talking about lying at all. I saw an interview with the woman I mentioned from the Krakauer book. I don't believe in any way that she is lying. She comes across as a good person who had a bad thing happen to her. I feel bad for her. But I don't believe she was raped. She feels as if she was raped. Yet she admits that to the men involved it likely seemed as if she was consenting. She's being told by many people that she is a victim rather than a person who made some bad decisions. I'm not surprised she feels the way she does. There is plenty of support for her feelings. But she never protested. Were the men supposed to guess that she really meant no? Maybe they should have. I don't think they're innocent fawns either. I'll put my doddering old guy hat on now and say that I find the idea of a "gang bang" personally distasteful, but I have no issue with what consenting adults do in their bedrooms. Consent is the key word here. And I find the idea of hiding behind alcohol/drugs to be ridiculous, as it is no excuse for denying accountability/responsibility in any other situation.

There is such a thing as rape culture and it isn't what the 3rd wave feminists would like us to think it is.

If you want to know what rape culture is, google what happened in Cologne over New Years. Google the epidemic in Sweden. That is real rape culture.

I have answered it plenty of times. There's no reason to assign the colors to gender. Arguing to stop doing something that provides no benefit is hardly the worst argument in the history of the board. It would be like if instead of putting the word "woman" on a the woman's bathroom door we decided to put the number 3 on instead and on the men's room instead of saying "men" we would put the number 9. It's as equally pointless.

Back to Matt McClure; just because he isn't in jail right now for rape doesn't mean he's not a rapist.

Someone should really look into that.
