Why do we even have updates anymore? Everyone is on twitter and CSFMB

When is the last time you heard something on an update that you didn't already know?

Any list that doesn't have Schuster in the bottom two is 10000000000% wrong.

Grote and ZZ are solid.

Evey one of those lists would be wrong.

Abbattacola probably could have been OK had he just read the script, but he tried to be funny and editorialize and fell flat on his face very time. Then it seemed like he was trying to be awful on purpose, the point of which I do not understand.

I'd have to say Kerry Sayers is the all-time worst because IIRC she didn't try editorialize or be funny, she just COULD NOT READ anything without screwing it up.

I thought Ray Flores was in his 50s but he's only in his mid-to-late 20s.

Kevin Z-Pack sounds pretty good. I hope he doesn't turn out to be another perpetually exasperated "I can't believe I have to talk to these people about this..." Bernstein clone.

Speaking of lists, I heard Dan a few times yesterday on my drive home say, very emphatically, "Every mock draft is wrong." Can't wait to hear the promos for whoever his doing the Score's mock drafts.

I thought that the top of the hour updates was to give the hosts an extra two minutes to shit or smoke. Don't know why they bother with the bottom of the hour updates.

Does it really matter?

All of the update people suck.

Honestly, my favorite updates were the ones when B&B would interrupt Rongey.

I think its dziepak or something, but that guy sounds good and he doesnt misspeak very often, he's easily top 3 right now of the active update people. And despite saying EVEY, schuster is pretty good at reading update copy.... rongey is only funny when he breaks down in his laughing fits. ZZ is a professional broadcaster... actually there is only one bad update anchor currently - Julie

Yeah, I'd get more enjoyment if they just played 2 minutes of soundboard drops twice an hour.

I'd have Brian Paruch ranked much higher (though haven't heard him in years...just referencing when he was on the Score)

I don't think they all suck and yeah, it doesn't really matter. I enjoy the B&B interrupting Rongey as well, but the best were when George Ofman used to get interrupted by either Mac & Boers, Bernsie & Boers or Jiggs and North....great stuff.

I think that I only remembered his name, so I had no idea where to put him....guess I could have just put honorable mention.

Yesterday for the free agent signings.

It's all about sponsorship. Think of it as another 1-2 minutes of commercials.

Lots and lots of update guys. Jesse Rogers, Jim Memolo... Good God, coming up with a list of (in)significant ones at the Score would take awhile.

I don't think Memolo is at WGN any more, he has a steady job hosting on MLB Network Radio, where he actually is pretty good.

Huebner does a pretty good job of reading the copy without stumbling, but he often adds an "uh" in random places. Even in the commercial with Hood he says "We can help mold, uh, the future." In a commercial for a school that teaches you how to be a professional broadcaster, you'd think they'd redo that without the interjection.

How am I not on this list? My updates were so bad they were good. I take pride in being the most unprofessional update guy in Score history...

I thought the Julie stuff was just piling on. Then I actually listened to a few of her updates yesterday. She fumbles over words and screws up names constantly.

Yesterday she gave a score for a spring training game that was a shutout for the home team (don't remember if it was Cubs or Sox and am too lazy to check) and said the score was "3 to Oh." For scores in MLB, it's zero. Always zero. The count might be "oh" but never the score.

Edit: after thinking about this more, "zip" is even better than "zero" for the score.

I think "nothing" is the most acceptable way to say 0 in a score, but that's the kind of thing that should only matter to an organ with some kind of house style, and the Score's house style is "turn on a mic and see where things go from there."

"Nothing" IS the best. Kudos. I was so dumbfounded by "oh" that I forgot what the best way to say it actually is. Thank you.

In French, a shutout is a "jeu blanc." Just felt like passing that along. RIP Expos and sinicalypse
