I have no doubt Brody's Cause is the best horse in that race. It also looks to set up perfectly for his style. The only concern is the long layoff. But looking at his works, he appears to be reasonably tight. And Romans has to try to put some Derby points on the board. He can't really just use this as a prep/tightener, because then he's got a whole lot of pressure heading into the Bluegrass.

Who do you like in the San Felipe, Walt? I'm a big fan of Exaggerator. He's a versatile S.O.B. There figures to be a strong pace to run at in there.

I'm all about Destin in the TB Derby. Pletcher put his best jockey Castellano to ride him.

In the San Felipe, I'm all about Exaggerator. I will say that the Cal-bred Smokey Image is intriguing.

That looked like a Pletcher training set. Brody looked bad out there. That race might knock him right off the Derby trail unless there's some legit excuse. I'll say one thing- Lanerie isn't helping that horse.

Didn't the jockey for Brody's Cause blow it on the race? Why did he keep him 12 lengths off the pace? The horse did fire at the end, but it was way too late.

I don't get the strategy at all when the horse could have kept up.

Luckily I passed on this race.

Well, I don't think Eddie Arcaro was gonna win with that horse today, but like I said, Lanerie ain't helping him. I'm interested in what Romans has to say.

I'm not usually a guy who complains about jockeys. You have to have the horse. And if you have the horse, a monkey can get the job done. That said, if you want to see a ride that borders on the criminal, watch the replay of the Big Cap. There's a reason that this Mario Gutierrez buffoon was a California fair rider before O'Neill grabbed him off the scrap heap and stuck him on I'll Have Another. This guy is not ready for prime time, Derby and Preakness wins aside. Donworth was so loaded with pace in this race, a child should have been able to score with him. Instead, this moron put him in a fucking chokehold and then when he finally decided to let him run, he tried to force him into a space that didn't exist. Send that motherfucker back to Calistoga!

Danzig Candy winning the San Felipe could be the real deal. Won wire to wire and didn't look like the horse broke a sweat.

Good job spmack for picking the Tampa Bay winner.

Danzig Candy was strong. That was an eye-popping race. That definitely wasn't a "go for it" race from Mor Spirit though. The goal for Baffert and Stevens wasn't to win that race yesterday. He's gonna be something to be reckoned with in the Santa Anita Derby.

Danzig Candy ran that race in 1:43. The jockey after the race said the track was not at its fastest and still the horse breezed to make that very good time. Impressive indeed.
