Yea, he'll probably be good. But every time NE trades for someone everyone is like "oh, he'll be awesome now"

Sometimes it ends up being Tim Tebow

You keep on saying this. It's possible that every other team in the league wanted to give up a 4th round pick too.

Bennet was the most productive TE I've seen on the Bears. I'd say I started watching seriously around 2003. However 20+ years of past personnel history doesn't have any relevance to the question of whether or not the Bears can find another productive TE in 2016 and beyond.

Exactly what I was going to say. What the fuck is this? Are we Bears fans here? Because, to my memory, it doesn't seem like we can find those guys. All my life, the Bears offense has typically been a shit-show, which makes it a bit troubling that the team seems bent on purging itself of good offensive talent.

So after 18 months, they just randomly decide to choose NE?

2015 Bears
Zach Miller - 439 yards on 46 targets (5 TD)
Martellus Bennett - 439 yards on 80 targets (3 TD)

They pull a guy off the scrap heap and he puts that up with less targets.

With or without Bennett, the bears aren't going anywhere this season and he was likely a goner after that. The Bears did well to get something for him now, while they could. And what difference does it make how well he does in NE?

As I said, 2 years left is much different than 1 year left. The salary cap situation is much easier with one year left. However, they may very well have had the same offer last year. You have to be an elite player to get much more than they got.

Miller isn't a good option either.

miller is 31 years old... he couldnt get healthy when he was in his 20's... why do they think he's going to play more than 5 games at AGE 31?

41 catches 405 yards and 5 TDs: Bears stats in the last year with the team of some other TE they traded who put up 77/1104/7 last year.

Agree 100%. The guy is the size of a fucking tackle and can run not to mention catch the ball. He's one of the best blocking TEs in the league. Typical sorority-girl bullshit. Unless you believe the Bears' pick will be a Pro Bowl caliber player as so many have been. Heh.

Really? Hows Jon Bostic working out for them?

And now what would the reaction be after Bennett walks, because there is no way in hell the Bears are re-signing him, and they get zero for him. Unless you think the Bears are going to win the Super Bowl next year. Then you keep him.

Well said.

It's year 2 of what looks like a complete rebuild and the coaching staff took a year to evaluate guys like Marty -and decided it's better to go a different direction. He's been in the league a few years already and was almost at the end of a contract with a team not ready to win now.

I'll take the 4th for him now instead of playing out a 6 and 10 season with a disgruntled version of Bennet next year that doesn't make much difference for the team anyways.

And for the record I don't think Marty is a bad dude.

Curious to see if and when the Bears draft a QB in the upcoming draft -More so than I was a few months ago.

I still hope it isn't in the 1st round tho.

The question is 'where'. At the moment I'm thinking that's what they want to use the Patriot pick on early in the 4th round, or maybe use that pick being early in the 4th as an excuse to use their 3rd pick on one.

Just hoping its not their 1st or even 2nd pick, but if they feel that strongly about 1 of them..

I'm hoping it would have to be Wentz for it to be their 1st rounder. And then in that case, you trade down. But that's not gonna happen. I'm guessing 3rd or 4th round.

So Jon Bostic is as good a linebacker as Bennett is a tight end? Apt comparison. Your thoughts in general seem like regurgitations of stuff you read in the media, nary an original inkling to the found. I am not usually persuaded by such poor effort.

So your original insight here is that NE traded for what they think is a useful TE, as opposed to the apparently far more common practice of knowingly trading for trash. Great stuff. Between you and Elmhurst Steve I'm not sure who sheds more light on the mysterious motivations that drive personnel departments to execute trades like this one.

lmao

You could have just said: 'NME, Jon Bostic did not work out so well for New England, I guess not every personnel move New England makes is a home run.'

Cheers m8!
